M14 rail systems for medium contour barrels?

The Knight's Armament Co. RAS-14 will only fit a standard contour barrel. Looking at photos of the Troy Industries BattleRail, it should fit a medium or heavyweight barrel but you won't be able to use it with a unitized gas cylinder. I sent an e-mail inquiry to Troy Industries to confirm that the BattleRail will work on a medium or heavy barrel. If I hear back from them, I'll post an update.

Troy battle rail

I have a Troy battle rail on my M1a with a medium contour barrel---fits good.
However, like Different posted, you can not use a unitized gas system because the Troy rail uses it's own barrel band.

Then you'll be fine. if you check out the thread on 18.5 barrels posted a couple of months ago mine is posted before painting and shorter rings. I really like mine.
I also seem to remember a thread or 2 on installation of the Troy rail in previous posts

Very nice looking piece of kit.

D.

Holy crap, I wonder if they could have possibly mounted that scope any higher

.

The rings came with the scope and were used only for that pic.
My one complaint with the rail is its height. I don't care for the tall rings and am currently using much shorter ones, unfortunately, the shorter rings and full length rail don't mix well when trying to mount NV gear in front of scope which I need for the after dark visits to my goats and foals by the local coyotes.

What are you using for NV?.....one day I want to shell out the money for good night optics.

I've been lucky enough to have a friend who sells NV gear so I used several different types and brands. My best advice would be pretty similar to advice on buying a rifle----figure out what you want to use it for, and how much $$$$ you can spend then go from there.
