M14 receiver need tapping.

Hello!

I just realize my Norinco M14 receiver have not ben properly taped. The hole on the side where the mount will be bolt is not properly tap. The thread is incorrect. Anyone know what Tap I will have to use to repaire it??? Metric? I don't think so... Certainly imperial...


In addition is there any ejection issue with Sadlak mount? People at range said to me, I could have ejection problems with a mount...

I had issues with my nork and the arms 18 mount as did others. It was narrowed down to the length of the ejector and extractor springs. The solution was to either buy USGI springs, Wolff springs or trim the nork ones by 2-3 coils.

I trimmed mine and the problem went away, but seeing as my rifle is 10 years old now and has a few thousand rounds through it I am going to buy Wolff replacement springs for the whole thing.

Never used the sadlak mount but there are a few reviews on it here if you can find them.
 
I've had the same jamming issues with arms 18, smith enterprise and sadlak. It's all about ejection path ;)
As for the side bolt thread. I don't have it in my brain but somewhere in the shop LOL
I do not believe it is a common thread and it is NOT metric. The threaded holes on the vast majority of chinese rifles work just great and are a USGI M14 spec thread/hole.
 
no, it's NOT metric- i seem to remember 12x28 or 12x20- granted, it is an ODD BALL that isn't carried at your normal general hardware, but then again neither is 6-40 or any other normal "gunsmith " screws- now the real question is " is the screw or the hole that's wrong?"- you probably don't have a real usgi receiver to compare it to, and since it's oddball i would suspect the screw,and be prepared that the norc receiver might very well break your tap- they're awfully hard steel-

Yup, Mystic has done us a huge service bringin in promags new "swan" type mount. I had to look twice at my bill... I coulndn't believe how affordable the mount was. Steel and it fit perfect.
It's a bit early to say but I am almost ready to give promag the nod as Best Bang For Your Buck, when it comes to a cheap mount that finally, actually works with an expectation of longevity.

I buy the gun used. Don't know what happen before with it. But I can clearly see that the threads are wrong in the receiver. They look flat on a portion of the hole*...

As in they're stripped you think? My m305 wouldn't fit a metric or imperial mount, it was that bad. I had a gunsmith redo the hole and make it 1/4 inch, so now it's beefy

You won't find anything there, I saw Jerry post something here and mailed him about it. It was back ordered for maybe a month and I got it a few weeks ago.
Now that I have it I'll say it was just over $100.... didn't want to start a stampede before.
Looks like this. It mounts a scope very low. With low rings I ground a relief into the aperture sight for clearance and I think I can get away without a cheek riser.
If it holds firm for 500 rounds I'll be able to give it a double thumbs up.
