Hey there , just had a question for the m14ers . Ive kind of changed my plans for my first m14 a bit , just testing the availability waters . Question is regarding 7.62x51mm marked receivers.

Do they still sell these or do they ever pop up on the EE ?

Ive found a site that sells authentic surplus nicknacks for m14's and want to try to build something somewhat genuine. like an original xm12 .

Another question is brookfield stuff still available ?

Everything is available for the right price, even brookfield stuff. If you want a receiver other than chinese or M1A, you'd need to import it through an outfit like Questar. It will be very expensive.

Well , like how expensive can these receivers get ? I notice that 7.62 mm has some in stock for roughly 500 and are stamped 7.62x51 that are investment cast which is what springfield does for their m1a's i guess.

Even though they are not complete receivers will they not ship to canada ? they dont mention specific international shipping they just mention some parts.

If they wont ship , would it be possible to have the side of a norinco receiver
slightly milled down and then have it restamped with 7.62 ?

Why?

Exactly - why?

If all you want is for the rifle to say 7.62 somewhere on it, shop around. Some of the Norinco receivers are marked 7.62, others are marked .308.

762mmfirearms sells both forged and cast, but they are legal receivers and have to be formally exported from the US, registered, and then formally imported. Questar will do it for you but your $500 receiver will become a $1200+ receiver by the time you get it.

Or just stamp whatever you want on it, I was thinking of stamping mine KICK ASS ZOMBIE GUN. or putting MOSTLY in front of Norinco. ;)

Why does anybody do anything ?

Why do guys buy 6 and 7 SKS's , Why do guys build 3000 dollar AR systems when its only a range gun , Why do we own handguns ?

Its just something i would like to do and it appeals to me visually and for my future plans for this rifle.. i dont really have a full explanation as to why .

That's a pretty good answer.

Well, if you're doing it for aesthetics, then I would file (not mill) the receiver side wall until the markings are gone and have them re-engraved on the heel like a real M14. There are engraving places that could probably do this. It's too late to roll stamp it as the receiver has already been hardened.

If you do this, make sure the new markings are applied BEFORE you remove the old ones so it stays legal.

It will then need to be re-parkerized.

Or something like how the Chinese M14's used to be marked... (and how I wish they were STILL marked)
