m14 saved me

its a norinco and was nothing done with it at the time. Now i have a archangel stock on it,a pro mag see thru sight and a Springfield muzzle break. And sorry for the bad the grammar and what not my brains has trouble with sentence structor.

No need for apologies, good thread, and to hell with all the a-holes who have never been in your situation, but somehow feel satisfaction (??) in fragging you.

Glad you're ok and good story! It always helps to have something long and hard with you whenever trekking through the bush! :D

(when a rifle is unavailable, I use my knife and a good solid tree branch to make me a walking stick!)

The only thing you should consider for future reference is to have the ammo with you. If a bear or an angry moose came charging at you or at your uncle, an empty M-14 (that you can't even load) won't do you much good.

Put the rounds in your vest pocket if you keep the gun unloaded because you're worried about accidents. Personally, I'd just load the mag and not rack the action until it's time to shoot, if I were you. Totally safe that way.

So yeah when i was in moose hunting back in September with my uncle. We saw a few moose down in a marsh and went down to see if we could find them.My uncle went around the marsh one way and i went through the middle were i had the rifle incase (he had the ammo so we were being safe the gun was not loaded) i saw one from the to the north were he went south. So on my way crossing i was have a bit of a hard time crossing boots getting stuck the normal stuff. When i was half way there i went to my chest in water . Lucky for me i was carrying my m14 in my hands and not on my back.

Got the gun side ways so i would not go down any more. I was in shock because the water and realy damn cold and a fright from going to me chest in boggy marsh water. So was able to stop myself from sinking more with my gun and push myself up with it.Was damn happy i was the one with the gun if not i would of more then likely been dead. And we did not even end up seeing the moose.

Yes, glad to hear you're okay. Disregard some of the folk here. 8 )
I would have ended up on the bottom trying to rescue my M14, lol! You're alright in my books.

That story makes no sense what so ever. All I got out of reading it was your uneducated and terrible at field craft.

Yup,, the M14/Garand platform REALLY IS the best in the field; here's another one for the books. ;)

I look forward to taking my Norky 14 hunting later this year; how was the weight of it?

Was realy heavy when your walk a few km in woods and ups and s**t me and my uncle would switch off.But i had the bright idea of useing the 20 round size mag rather then the 5 round small one.So use the small one if u like your back lol.And take the cleaning the kite out to reduce weight.

The closer it is to your body, the lighter it gets. Get a good sling. I like the Safari / tactical slings that allow you to carry it out front. Keeps the hands free and rifle handy.

Good you're ok. A good sling is the key, let your body carry the gun, not your arms. I have a ar15 done up like a vietnam era m16. Pencil barrel, triagular handguards, you know... Carry the m305 around for 20 mins, then swap to the ar15- you'll be blown away by the weight difference, fully loaded, it's even a bigger difference. It makes sense why the military has always been weight obsessed when you carry these things for a day or three.

Twenty round mag?

Hi Saders, glad all worked out but, ahh, but good does a bigger mag have to do with the situation. Anyway good hunting.

20 round mag is best so you can #### yer hand in front of it while carrying.. balances better..
The 14 is about the same size and weight of the FN's we used to drag through the woods years ago. Try that with a full load of ammo and a ruck sack... :D
