M14 "shorty"- mags won't latch

For the limited time that I had this rifle on the range last year, I wrapped my left hand around the inserted, loaded
mag while also using bean bags for rests.

Rifle cycled OK for the ~60 rounds that I fired.

Now, I find that, on my home bench, none of my 6 mags will latch into place.Even the cut down 5 rounders won't latch I tried all 6 on my other M14-no problem.

Is there a relatively simple layman's fix for this?

The shorty was part of CanAms gun + ammo deal, if that matters.

Hmm, I have had the occasional M14 mag not work in my M14 rifle, but it worked in another M14 just fine...

But, this is not the situation you have, your gun was working fine & now is not... I would check to see if the latch is still secure, has the roll pin moved? Is the latch loose?

Others will chime in, it should be a simple fix!

Cheers

by "won't latch in place", you mean they won't lock in?

is the back end tip of the op rod spring guide engaging the hole in the front of the mag?

See the little plate attached to the back of the mag... I filled that down until they fitted nicely.

To all who replied: thank you.

Looks like I have a fairly easy fix.

After pulling the trigger group, I noticed that the mag latch is tilted ever so slightly to one side.

The latch pin appears to have sheared part way through.

A new pin should solve the problem.

I have a pin from when i changed mine for a sadlac ! PM me your info and i will mail it to you.
Or you can upgrade to extended mag rel .I would recomend the sadlac ,It is real nice and easy to install.
