M14 sighting in Iraq

Eric - we used graphite lube which is on issue for using in the north. It is a dry lube. I never had any problems nor did I hear of any from others in Kandahar. Obviously you had to look after the rifles to ensure functionality. If you want to know about getting sand in everything...try an airmobile assault into the desert....damn, it gets into your underwear....

H20 - 9 right now. 4 Norincos with USGI parts, 3 M1As, 2 M1As SOCOM IIs.....4 of them in Vltor stocks, 3 in Sages, and the others stockless right now....

Sweet!

I also have a naked barreled action that will become a M14K or possibly a one of a kind SEI SOCOM 16

haha air mobile in the desert... nice.

I think I got it worse though, we were in a severe sandstorm that lasted days... So much sand you could not even breath, and you had to wear your gas mask just to go out and take a crap. You did not even have to wipe, just lift your ass and the sandstorm would sand blast that sucker spotless :D

We have been here for quite some time.

BTW, speaking of what the US military might be doing to replace the M-14 check out this link

SCARs is for special people....not average joes....

Personally given the incredible costs, the military should not convert to another weapon system until there is a leap in technology and capablity. Otherwise, it is just a ton of money to get a marginally improved system given the current technology limitiations....caseless maybe....who knows but the cost of converting over the smalls arms and ammo would be incredible....unless you sell small arms and ammo :D

IIRC, Morpheus was the G3 for Land Forces Western Area before entering private practice.

Definition I have of that is:
G3/S3 is the principal staff officer for tactical training, operations and plans, force development, and modernization.

As such, he has a pretty broad understanding and contact network; from the tactical to the strategic level of considerations. Sure, it's not D&D in his mom's basement maybe, but still... ;)

Makes for a pretty handy guy to know if you care to understand what is in a national pipeline and why; know what I mean?

For the last 5 years if you wanted privatized regional telecommunications you call me. If you wanted military force modernization you called him. Hope that puts opinions in the perspective they properly belong.

I have read that the 3 prong flash suppressor on the 13" barreled SCAR-H develops cracks due to
over pressure at the muzzle and that it's not that controllable on FA mainly due to it's lack of weight.

Maybe special people like that sort of thing...

Thanks for the link. So there is not a semi-automatic Marksman option for Canadian Forces in 7.62x51? I'm sure that's a fine Sniper Rifle, but it seems like there is a serious hole left in the Canadian arsenal if that is all that is available. Man, I thought our guys had it rough having only ancient M-14's to fall back on. That's rough. I would have thought they would have let you guys keep at least a small quantity of FAL's in reserve. It's a shame they took them away, and yet did not provide an alternative to fill the gap. But there is bureaucracy for ya. No matter what country you live in; you can always count on that.

To meander back somewhat, here is a picture rich link on the CF rifles...

*edit: Crap. Even better, try a forum search on our own site here. One of the nicest CF photo threads I have ever seen. Here's the odd teaser...

AR10 vs. M1A

These pics are not as cool as the Canadian Army pictures, but hey at least my hat is camo'd.

Bought a new mount for my AR-10 SuperSASS, American Defense Recon.

Here is me with my Armalite AR-10 SuperSASS

Also had to zero the M1A (in Marstar stock), bought a new scope for it, a SuperSniper from SWFA.

Zero Distance will be 100 yards.

Only had 40 rounds of Federal Gold Medal Match, Here is what 10 rounds with the M1A did. My first 3 shots where horrible, but I settled down for the next 7. There was 20 mph crosswind, so you got to figure the wind blew those bad rounds off target ;)
BRP5-vi.jpg

Here is what the AR-10 SuperSASS did with FGMM. I was on my way to a 1 inch 10 shot group then the last shot was a low flyer and turned my 1" group into a 2" group .. Oh well. I can't afford to shoot FGMM too much, if I was a rich guy that's all I would shoot.
I have 500 bullets of 168gr SMK's, so better yet, it's time to start making my own match load (half the price of FGMM)

After Zeroing it is time to go to the metal gongs. This range has gongs at 200, 300, 400, 500, 600.. and one that goes all the way out to 900 yards! Once I figured out the bullet drop of TMR reticle on the Leupold, and the windage from the 20 mph cross wind, I had no problems consistently hitting the 600 yard gong (in the shape of an actual size goat). South African Ammo will be used for the gongs.

Will be shooting from the prone position, just like the snipers do in COD4 on the Xbox. Lucky for us, this part of the range has cover, so the cement was nice and cool.

Here is my duty belt. This belt has a knife, holster, complete First Aid Kit, and a utility pouch for such items such as keys and cameras. This is the same belt I wear when playing COD4 on the Xbox. When I don't have my duty belt, molle vest, and a side arm locked and loaded when playing COD4, I don't do as good.

An area near the range. If you look close enough you can see me in the pic (on the bed cover of the truck). This concludes the day at range, all in all a good day. Zero'd two weapons, and shot about 300 rounds total. Dam if you think about it, that's $150+ for today's ammo prices.

I don't take my vehicles downrange where are visible to the firing point. :runaway: Some wise guy might take a shot :) ;)
