M14 sticking open

Hey fellow battle rifle nutz. Im precision rifle guy through and through but love this platform however I'm having some problems. I picked up a norc m14 unfired at a show and it seems to hang open every couple of shots as if the bolt went back too far and jammed. I simple whack on the charging handle slams it back into place and shoots for another couple rounds and does it again. It also shoots about minute of beachball at 100 yards. I know its no precision rifle but holy hell. Im all over a 12x12 target at 100. Since I got it I've gotten a match op rod spring guide and shim the gas system. I know I have aways to go to see something like 1moa but im begining to think I might have an actual problem with the gun. Would like to figure that out before sinking more money into in needlessly. Any ideas? Thanks.

Well I lubed it up pretty good and as for a burr or loose op rod guide its tough to tell without something to compare to as I dont have alot of experience in this platform. Is there anyone in southern ontario who is really good to have give this rifle a good once over? Thanks again.

The oprod guide is on the barrel, it supports the oprod tube. If it has lot's of side to side play , it's loose and "can" cause some cycling issues.
Sounds like oprod tab is hanging up on the take down notch.
I would have it inspected to also rule out a safety bridge/bolt binding issue or mag release/bolt binding issue.
Also , this problem can happen if stripper clip guide retaining pin is protruding into receiver too far as it will contact the top of the bolt.

What he said...

I'll have to 'break' it in for ya! I just need a couple hundred rounds of ball ammo!

* Has this baby been greased ? Op rod channel, bolt lugs, bolt raceways, op rod tube?
* Op rod hump that houses the bolt (right side) roller been greased like mad?

Keep us posted!
