M14 stock help

Let me be the first. Why change the existing stock? What is it that truly bothers you? IMHO all the aftermarket chassis-type stocks are made to be sold. The average CGN'er is not likely to go hunt TB with a civilian rifle. After humping one of them for a day (even around the range), you'll wonder what the excitement is all about. They are heavy, unbalanced and they bite flesh. Then these stocks are worse than a new boat to find new and exciting things to clamp, clip and screw onto them.

My advice is to simply go against the consumer tide, invest in ammunition and learn to shoot your rifle.

Yeah, save your money for practice ammo! That Troy stock is great if you like doing lots of PT (Physical Trg) and grunting, "Up popped the Ranger from the coconut grove, he was a mean mztherfzcker you could tell by his clothes....."

That's an old Airborne running / cadence song! :D

What do you want to do (i.e. aim to accomplish) by changing the stock, first of all?

the only "improvement" i found in over 30 years was the change from chu wood to fiberglas- which was standard on the original usgi- mind you i haven't tried a "chassis" , and i do like the configuration of the m14a1 straightline , but in a fiberglas- i just wonder how much of the improvement was physoclogical

I also vote for USGI Fiberglass.

Original Sage: Had it, got rid of it. -dirt gets in, blocky, heavy.
Chopmod Sage: Had it, got rid of it.- same as above and still heavy.
Troy: Had it, got rid of it. - it had the bulk of a gpmg.
In the end I want back to USGI and im happy.

I have a USGI Maple that is fabulous. I also have a USGI figerglass that I haven't shot yet. I see no reason to spend a ton of money on something I don't need.

well the thing is $$$ is not my concern here I WANT THE BEST. And I dont want a 10 inch cheek piece on my stock so I can look through a scope properly... Thats y I have been lookng at aftermarket stocks ..as far as weight goes a c9 with ammo is heavy a ten pound gun with optics is not... Also do these stocks not also provide improved accurcy and recoile control???

Don't know why but for some reason I love the look of metal & wood. So Boyd's walnut stock takes my first place but a close second would be a USGI fiberglass followed by a McMillan M2A.

Well that's the Sage or othe Troy you'll want then. Advantages and disadvantages to each, I ended up going with the Troy and a Magpul PRS stock.

what are the advantages and disadvantages to them

Do a 3 year "battle rifle forum" search for the term Sage. You will find pros cons and comparisons. Enough reading and pictures to keep you going for a year. Of the 3 I like best, Sage, Troy and JAE100, it's a toss up between the Sage and JAE. Mine are both superb. I sold the Troy.
