Hi guys,

The top screw of my fiberglass stock butt plate does not thread at all into the stock, thus making the butt plate loose. Is there something that I can use such as a compound that will allow me to tork the screw in properly? Thanks.

your top screw doesn't screw into the stock- it screws THROUGH the stock and a retainer and is anchored by a nut- you don't need the retainer, and you just take the screw to any hardware store and they will match it- your bottom screw is anchored by the sling swivel-

The problem is not screw. The threading on the screw is fine. The problem is that it doesn't tighten at all. It's loose. Could it be the nut then?

Replace all the USGI top screw stuff with a Home Depot/Cambodian Tire #10 x 32 tpi x 2" or 1 1/2" long nut and bolt. Hope this helps. That's all I use.

Cheers,
Barney

The wood screw that comes with the Norinco hardware won't fit. You'll have to replace it.

Or if you're too lazy to go to the store, I just cut the top off a golf tee, filled the hole with glue and jammed in the golf tee. Then just screwed the wood screw into that.

As mentioned the wood screw from Norinco will not work . USGI stocks have a machine screw , square nut and a nut retainer for use with the fiberglass stocks.
Sounds like you either need the correct screw and nut or a new nut .

As an aside, the square nut shipped out to me by fab sports (as I bought a fiber stock from him, it was free) was a #10-24 thread .. but it was easy as pie to get a bolt from home depot in that size (2" long i think).

Sadly no one in my area carries square nuts.

Does anyone have a pic of the retainer your talking about for the square nut? I'm just curious what it looks like. My nut wants to slide up as I tighten it if I'm not careful.

Epoxy or JB Weld works to hold it.
