Hey Guys;

I'm in the process of setting up my two M14 rifles with USGI fiberglass stocks... and... I noticed that the top butt-plate screw hole is stripped... The one with a wood screw type thread on it... What can I use to repair this? Is there a can of spray epoxy or fiberglass or foam that I can use???

Thanks for your advice and help!;)

Cheers

Use ACRAGLAS GEL. Fill hole with it. Be sure to put release agent on buttplate and screw. Install buttplate and tighten screw to within a quarter turn of tight. Let it harden. Remove screw and buttplate. Clean up as require. Install buttplate and screw tightening screw all the way this time.

I think there is a metal clip that's supposed to go inside the top screw hole to allow the screw to have something to hold on to.

that's right, it's a screw and nut , my spec sheet doesn't show size and pitch, but it's a stepped bolt , probably with 8/32 as a final-i've used a set of needle-nose pliers( pliers, not visegrips- there's no room for those in there)to hold the nut while i screwed the bolt in with the other hand -you don't need the retainer if you blue loc-tite

Anyone got a pic of this? Pretty please... Better yet, anyone got two of these "animals" laying about that they can part with??? PRETTY PRETTY PLEASE...

Cheers

You can use any 8 x 32 tpi x 2.0" or any 8 x 32 tpi or 1.75" metal screw with corresponding bolt from Home Depot or Home Hardware.

Don't worry about using the corresponding USGI screw. 2 years ago, I ordered the USGI screws for the upper buttplate and NUMRICH sent me two of the Home Depot screws. Big fzcking deal ! I was pissed. Lessons learned.

Save your money !! Just improvise!! That's the beauty of the M14's... they were made with locally sourced hardware for the most part.

Barney

Thought it was 10x32...but I guess it also wouldn't matter which ever one use, if you are putting a corresponding nut of your own anyway.
