Why is the armchair experts have to lip off everytime this topic comes up,this has been discussed over and over again here. Do a frigging search folks.

Oh and the shotgun is almost useless as a military weapon,it is most commonly used for breaching locks and pest control! No range,no mag capacity, and not reliable enough for use as a combat weapon.

What planet do you hail from. Mossberg 590, milspec. Benelli M-4, milspec. I'm sure a couple of hundred US Marines would give you funny looks with that comment like that. Better do your own search here fella. Shotguns in combat hail back to the first world war. My old Winchester is a civie version of the trench gun, of that era.

Also as I've just retired the Combat arms, (engineer) I'll not take the brand of armchair quarterback.

My Mossberg holds 8 rounds in the tube, 6 in the side saddle and 4 in the butt. I have proven time and time again that with ghost rings sights I can continually hit a man sized target at 150m, that's with a smooth non choked barrel and rifled slugs. And I have never had a stoppage, kinda blows your theory to sh#t. And do a little math. You sure see alot of room clearing both LE and Military toting shotguns now don't you.

Give the boys some more versatile ammo and watch the Remmy's preform.

OKAY IN ENGLISH -- ANYONE WANTING TO USE A SHOTGUN FOR COMBAT IS AN IDIOT.

I've shot a few people with different weapons -- I carry a M4 now - and I have a choice.

Excuse the question, but what is the Biggest problem with a shotgun as a close quarters weapon?

control, would be one, would you want to storm into a room and shoot a badguy holding a kid in his arms with you using a shotgun?

Shot spread would be a major problem in that situation.
But barring hostages, what really kills the shotgun as a offensive weapon?
Or would it still be the shot spread?
Guys-in-the-know, help out a guy-not-in-the-know.

ok here are a few more I can think of

Reload time
control
amount of ammo in the weapon
size of the weapon

I know our local ERT team is using a shotgun for breaching only;)

Bushmaster AR's with Eotech's,lights

and Glock22's with light mounted

What if you could deal with those issues (except control)?
Would a shotgun still be a very poor choice?

IMHO yes it would be a poor choice. Everyone on a ERT team should have the same weapon(same mag/ammo)less training for the team

Use the shotgun for taking doors down or less lethal(beanBag's)

Enough,if you want to discuss the merits or the lack thereof pertaining to the shotgun start another thread in the shotgun forum.

The M16/M14 topic has been discussed to death.
