I'll be gettin some spare cash in the new year and would like an m14. Problem is I have no idea where to start. Do I buy a Springfield new from a dealer? Do I buy used? I see a lot of Norc builds for sale, artery any good? What do I go with? Regular, socom or match?

Any input would be a big help

Suggest you go to the "Main Battle Rifles" sub-forum. This isn't the right venue.

You can get more gun for the dollar by buying a Norinco receiver built into a nice rifle than with a cast-receiver M1A.

For the M1A, only a used gun is a truly viable option as they don;t make it up here at retail very often.

For a fully USGI'd Norinco or M1A, expect to pay $2500+

How about starting in the correct forum?

Sorry, couldn't resist. Hopefully the mods will move this for you.

Regards.

Yup, go to the Main Battle Rifle Forum, look for Stickies and threads by a guy named Hungry or send him a PM.

Buy a Norc M14 and upgrade it. Attend one of Hungry's clinics (I believe he said he is making a West Coast swing in the summer)

Or, just skip the M14 and buy a superior shooting platform.....the AR15 :D :stirthepot2:

Kidding.....just have fun with whatever you buy.

Wait for the XCR-M.

Of course, I am "one of those" who will ALWAYS be an FN FAL fan, because that is the rifle I learned to defend this country with, and I see the M14 design as a weak offshoot of the Garand, that only saw a few years of real service.

YMMV.

And yes, this is the wrong forum - The AR poodle shooter crowd gets very defensive if you start talking about real rifles that shoot real bullets here - They start feeling under-endowed, and calling you names....

BTW - Congrats on yer engagement: You've picked a fine lass!
