M14--why???

Put about 150 rnds down range with it today.
Figured out the norinco rear sight is the s**ts as well :wave:
But all I had to do was remember to put it back to the original setting and the steel ram at 100 yards was in serious trouble. I'm shooting really old ammo of unknown make (fmj), and the group size was nothing to be proud of, but maybe the next batch will be better.

Now onto the sight problem and as well ordering my 2 cd set from Hungry ;)
We'll see how far it goes :onCrack: on the aftermarket parts idea.

There ya go baby. Put rounds down her. Take her apart, and wipe her down delicately like the lady she is.

Put her back together, #### her a few times, just to get her all warmed up and ready to go. These girlies love it!
 
Just bought one from a friend - I don't own a semi center fire and you never know what the Liberals wll do if they do win an election in the future so here is the plan.

Gun comes with a glass stock - will leave for now.

Start with cast boolits - have a ton of loads from the cast boolit forum to try in the M 14

Try to fend off the urge to replace half the gun with "upgraded" parts until I see how she really shoots.

Gun is a fascinating design to be sure and I suspect will be a regular player at the range.

I've had mine for 6 months now and I'm working on sending my second crate of SA ammo into the traps. I still love it as much or more as the day I got it.
I picked up a Marstar NM spring guide which made a world of difference.
I also just got a Boyds walnut stock. Haven't swapped it yet. I don't think I have the right tools (what do you use on the crossbolts anyway?) so maybe take it in to Al Simmons and get them to bed it at the same time.
I'm also taking Long Range Rifle training and using the M14 for that. I know it will get me out to 600yd no problem, maybe even 800 but is there any way to get them out to 1000?

Use needle nose pliers. Carefully stick them in and turn. There is a proper driver for it or one can get the stock liner tool, but if you aren't going to be working on them often, just stick to needle nose pliers.
 
if memeory serves, you can also use one of the "key"s from those 2 pronged trigger locks- the red plastic ones with the big screw in the center

That works too...only that the key is usually a tiny piece of sheet metal that is harder to hold and the slab sometimes gets in the way of the wood.
 
I had a Norinco M14 clone years ago ... nice rifle but Chinese fit and finnish leave something to be desired. I am planning on a Springfield Armoury version to fit out as a sniper rifle. P.S. Has anyone seen the new HK XM8?! WOW! I'm in love.

My 1st M14 was a springfield and I fell in love with it great hunting rifle and it shot 1.5 moa out of the box at 100 yards. They are fun to play around with also you have so many part avalible to you.
 
It is sooo popular in Canada that they are going to place it(Sniper and multi purpose machine of War) soon on the restricted or prohibited list...:puke:

Better to have one and enjoy "your freedom" before it happens...

That sounds like fear mongering. I'm highly skeptical the CPC is going to issue anymore OICs. If they were I'm sure the Beretta Storm would already be on the list.

I agree, I was not thinking about the CPC but another political party quess which ?
 
I handled a norinco m305 at a gunshow, I almost threw up :) With only 5 shots allowed I would stick to a older winchester semi auto, wich is allot lighter better handling and less clunky/cheap commie feeling, especialy at the norinco's price point/quality. I seriousely wouldn't buy one for even $200, because it needs about $700 worth of work to be something I would be moderately happy with.

Thats just my opinion, hopefully no one takes great offence.

M-14 As a Watershed Development In Battle Rifles Eh!

Lets not forget that when the USA and NATO sought out a new battle rifle in the 1950s that the M-14 and FAL competed "head to head". Many Commonwealth Nations opted for the FN FAL design; the USA stuck with their own M-14 design and went along with its calibre in .308 NATO.

Nevertheless the FN FAL/CIA1 and all its variations marked the "beginning" of the battle rifle configuration that dominates the World today..pistol grip straight line stock and practical full auto and semi auto fire.

Sir Winston Churchill as one of his last duties as PM made sure that NATO and the Commonwealth got a very practical rifle that in his own words could deliver "very dense fire" for the Infantryman on the Battlefield.

FN presented Sir Winston Churchill with a special presentation FN FAL when NATO and the Commonwealth adopted it.

I have shot both the CIA1, Ishaphores and the Norinco M-14 clone/305 over the 1967-2007 period.

I like them all; the key is their 20 round magazine which in Canada is now prohibited.
