I think most of the guys who dislike the M-14 either lack the knowledge necessary to operate it correctly/smoothly, or have never fired it. There are only two things that are necessary for you to run a Norinco M-14S. Replace the crappy rear site with a USGI M-14 or M-1 Garand rear site, and swap the Chu Wood stock for a USGI fibreglass, walnut, birch or Boyds Walnut/laminate stock.
Most of the tweaks and additions made to the stock rifles may tighten groups a little, but for most shooters, the difference is negligible under real world shooting conditions. As such, they're unnecessary, unless you simply want to kit out your rifle for your own enjoyment.
