M14 will not fire please help!!

Before burning up any gasoline, test it with a spent cartridge. No primer dimple, means no bang.

Another thing that I did wrong was I didn't let go of the oprod freely, I slid it forward slowly............

STOP taking anything apart, you have found the cause. no matter commercial or surplus ammo, you gotta let go of oprod freely. why I know? been there done that

Had that happen once, turned out that the brass broke on a previous round, leaving the shoulder of the case in the mouth of the barrel (very hard to spot with the eye) and preventing the next round from fully chambering.

Wind chill is purely the perceived temp "felt" by humans, if it's -17, that's what your rifle's temp is... Not -30...

K, so I took it apart, cleaned it, oiled it properly, installed a bi-pod, so eventhough it was most likely me not letting the oprod do its thing I learned how to take the rifle apart, and I have to say it was a fun sunday afternoon, the trigger group was a pain in the royal ass to take out, wow I must have bent 2 screwdrivers, but its nice and snug now. here are a couple pictures of my project

Did you try a primed empty case in the rifle to see if the firing pin is doing its thing?

Trigger group looks like it's still coated in cosmoline. What did you clean it with? Does the bolt have the same brownish shalaque type residue on it?

Sounds like the spring pin from the stripper clip guide is too far into the receiver...

As others have said, don't ride the rod, pull it back and let go of it like a slingshot.

Huuuu???? How did you derive that diagnoses?

Seen a few....few customers with bad scope mount(or stripper clip guides) instalation.if the pin portrude only alittle inside the receiver the hammer will hit it and cause a failure to fire...not even a light strike as you would see with a dirty gun. Simple no ?

now that is a good post...... and is an often overlooked culprit.

i remember back when i bought my first springfield "clone" mount a few years back..... i had to dremel the receiver mounting bolt off a good 3/16. Good things to double check on any mount installation.

Did you rinse and slposh the bolt in some gas or Varsol?? grease in the firing pin channel and cold wx don't mix.

Hi guys the pictures of the Trigger group are before I cleaned it, it took me so long to get it out that I needed to take a pucture just because it was such a mission.

I will take it out this weekend and let you know how this "clean" M14 performs.
