I had the same effect while using Marstar's spring guide, the spring fits guide way too tight.

Hate to burst your bubble, but it is still classed as a semi-auto with the gas valve open in single round mode...............

to V1: have you used USGI op. spring with your Marstar op.rod????
Norinco spring is smaller in diametre, so if you change the oper. spring to USGI - it will solve your problem...drop me a line...I have couple kicking around

Funny to hear the problem with the stainless oprodguiderod... I had no troubles just using the norinco spring and stainless rod...
