M14s barrel fits onto a Garand receiver

Got back to work on the project.
Obtained a scrapped M-1 op rod piece. Really didn't want to cut up the full length repairable op rod I had. Needs a new piston head installed, but otherwise usable in an M-1.

Trimmed the broken end, made a mandrel to mount the op rod on so that it can be trimmed and turned to accept the new extension. Tight fit; op rod has to be tapped on and off the mandrel. Not all the way on in the photo.

The tubular extension was machined from a piece of rifle barrel. Will need to be plugged at the piston end. Will be silver brazed together.

Trial assembly.

Can't see why it won't work.

Excellent work. I know what you mean about not wanting to cut up good usable parts, but there really isn't an option here for the garand parts needed. Mine works 100%. Accuracy is pretty mediocre. I blame that partly on the fitting of the stock as the barrel shot well on the m14 receiver.

I am planning on using a M-1 stock, altered at the front end to engage the M-305 gas block, like a M-305 stock would. The M-1 receiver will be clamped in the M-1 stock as usual, and I am hoping that the barreled action will be properly stabilized at both ends.

Here is the barreled action in a slightly modified M-1 stock. Actually it is a Tipo 2 stock I picked at a low price. It was necessary shave out the inletting to accept the op. rod guide and to clear the larger diameter op. rod. I was going to extend the stock to engage at the gas block. As it happens, the op. rod guide firmly bottoms out in the channel when the trigger guard is pulled up to latch the barreled action in the stock. I'll just bed the op. rod guide. This will stabilize the forend and an extension to engage the gas block won't be necessary. It will be necessary to open out the M-1 front band to allow the op. rod to clear.

Will need to rig either a M305 handguard with a M305 front band or adapt a M-1 handguard.

Garand m305 Hybrid and My First Post

Garand/m305 hybrid!!

I’m not sure exactly what parts you folks have changed or modified. But I have a m1 Garand/m305 hybrid. The machining on the Garand receiver was done b4 I got the rifle. What was done was: a “Breda” m1 garand receiver was machined to accept M1a mags, the front legs were shortened, & LOTS More…
An m305 barrel was threaded into this modified receiver and the garand receiver is machined to accept an M1a or m305 trigger group. I then obtained an m14 USGI stock, & a Boyd’s M1a wooden stock. It’ll sit in either stock w/ minimal trimming & sanding, (the wood stock). Basically it’s an M1Garand receiver and bolt, and the rest is m305 or M1a parts. Because of going to the shorter 7.62x51 calibre, a shim or spacer is needed at the Front Band/Stock Ferrule area,, as the m305/M1a stock is now a 1/2” shorter than the barreled action. And the “Front Band” will not reach the “Stock Ferrule”. Also I drilled a new follower arm pin, “hole” into the receiver, 1/2” further behind the original hole, towards the butt. This was to allow a “Stock” or normal length Op-Rod Spring Guide to be used, instead of a fabricated, or longer oprod spring guide. This allows the magazines to catch properly on the spring guide and work very well. Spacers or some such device will be needed on both sides of the spring guide where the pin penetrates through the receiver. Otherwise the spring guide can & Will walk back & forth & the mags won’t catch if the guide isn’t centred where it’s supposed to be.
But so far, this rifle operates & shoots Great!! I can’t at this time figure out how to post pics of what I’m writing, I’d like to show you what it looks like,, but ??

This is my first post, my name is Randy, I live in Northwestern Ontario, I hunt Moose, and small game, I shoot for fun, collect as many firearms as I can afford, and I enjoy fishing. Otherwise I luv dabbling in firearms repair, modifications, I’m in the process of obtaining a metal lathe & milling machine.
