Wow, nice work. Looks like you were very prepared.

After I put the order in for the rifles, we had time to look around for everything we needed. All the rifles came to one address and we made all the transfers Sat morning with the CFC. Took us about 2 minutes apiece to make the transfers.

I had my latest shorty build out last Sunday, for initial testing and sighting in. Also had a 22" barreled 14 out for comparison ... of course there is NO comparison in balance, handling and convenience between the racier, chopped and channelled shorties and the 22" stockers. These shorties, as exemplified by the ones in the pictures above, are the way the M-14 SHOULD be built.

We are doing more M-14 shorties up at this week's Wet Coast M-14 group grope, but I don't think we will be anywhere near as organised and efficient as the production line set up by you "amateurs". Don't know how many will be there, but we'll try to beat the record you have set of FIVE shorties in 12 hours [ did you include beer breaks and a barbecue in your amazing event?? ]

At the range session, I tried the shorty in both a GI Glass stock and the folder, and still like the folder the best. The pistol grip really does make a big difference in control for faster shooting [ you can use a "weaver dynamic tension" type of hold, pulling back on the forend, pushing frwrd on the pistol grip ].

I'll get some pics of my last folder build. It is camo, built on a GI Fiberglass stock. I'll be at the Chilliwack and the Kamloops gunshows, if any one wants to feel the difference these shorties and folders have.

My shorty does not [ yet ] have a muzzle brake or flashider on it. I notice you'all went with Vortex/Phantom AR-15 style F/Hiders, probably in the original 1/2" x 28 TPI?? These are the best M-14 shorty f/h design I've found [ if you remember to bore out the ID to 30 cal instead of leaving them @ .223 cal ... you "amateurs" DID remember that trivial little part, right? ].
[;{)

However,
after several of these shorties, I realised that I personally don't care much about actual flash suppression. BUT, the look cool factor is definitely better with SOMETHING hangin off the muzzle. So what's a boy to do??

I am now using the shorter DLASK 3 hole shorty .30 Cal muzzle brakes [ yeah, Dlask IS a professional, and he remembered to bore them out to .30 Cal before he sold them to me ]. These are same size and profile [ maybe slightly fatter ] as the F/hiders you'all used, but I am looking forward to much improved muzzle control and shorter times on splits and tighter doubles.

If you are going to optimise the 14 for CQB, then a muzzle brake gets more Kool Aid Bonus Points than flash reduction. Fortunately, if you went with standard AR 1/2 X 28 TPI threads at the muzzle, you will be able to swap back and forth [ as the tactical role demands .... it might be dark in the mall when you need to clear it, and a F/H might be absolutely necessary then ... right??]

My shorty gave me about 3" @ 100 yds, with iron sights, 7.62 NATO BALL ammo, off of a rough bench rest, in drizzle and dim light. But more important, with the shorty, I can keep ALL my shots on the 200 Yd Ram ... OFFHAND.

And once I get that muzzle brake installed, I'm hoping I can do the same as fast as I can aim and pull the trigger,

Now won't that be sumthin'?

AS usual, any opinions you get for free on the Internet, may be worth a lot less than you paid for them,

and of course,
your personal mileage may vary.

Nice job guys.He said with awe and a little shock.I sure like the shorthy platform.Hope to get some pointers this weekend down in the lower rainland. Can't seem to make up my mind about flash suppressor or not.Oh well got some time to stew about it.

Just to keep things in perspective, here is a link to an American who built what he considers the ULTIMATE M-14. Compare his kit [ and his prices ] to ours. And about what he thinks it should cost.
How To Top Price://www.ttellc.net/m141.htm

Everybody should send a NICE thank you note to jMarstar/johnone for letting us have our M-14 rifles so cheaply [ before addons, anyhow ].

After you get the basic M-14 rifle, you have the basic "starter module"... what you do with it after that is where the fun begins, and the money goes.

OR,
you could just leave it totally stock, and spend money on ammunityion instead of parts.

DEFINITELY, don't do what too many M-14 Kool aid addicts are doing ...
don't stock up on EXPENSIVE GENUINE GI M-14 parts unless you really need them.

Of course, MY personal Chinese M-14 has more GI parts than your personal M-14, but do as I say, not as I do ...
or else you'll be driving the price of MY new parts way up where even I can't afford them.

Oh dear....

I have a barrel sitting in a tube.......I reckon its one of the few poles out there wishing to be circumcised. I think I'm catching the shortty bug. Damn it.

I was looking at the site Lazerus posted and what really stuck was this sentence

"Also, back in the 90’s, then President Clinton ordered the destruction of over 200,000 surplus M14’s."

If you didn't hate the man before..........

Anyways, nice work guys. Those shorties look good.

I'm feeling the urge to get mine chopped too but I'm having too much fun shooting it right now to part with it for any amount of time.

that's a table full o beauties :D very nice work guys...
I finally have everything essential for my personal rifle, rebuilt from the ground up, norinco m14s shorty. Picked up my 18 3/4 , 1/2 x 28 tpi threaded, target crowned barrel from Dlask the other day, and also grabbed one of his 30 cal reamed Vortex flash hiders. My last order of G.I. parts is here in a few days, and my "match" chambered .308 , m14s shorty will be ready to go. Only norc parts left on this baby are the receiver, the one piece op rod and the barrel...... don't worry, Lazerus2000 gives me the gears about my insatiable quest for G.I. parts ;) :D

"did you include beer breaks and a barbecue in your amazing event?? "

Actually no, we drank beer as we worked until we ran out of parts and rifles.
