M14s feeding problem

Does it hang up from both the left and right side?
The mag follower is set up so that the first round put in is on the rifles right side.
The second round from the bottom is on the left, as is the fourth one.
So pay attention to which rounds hang up, and if it is ALWAYS one side, then perhaps you have a bent lip.
Did you say it happens on both your 5 rounder and also your 20/5 ? If so, that would reduce the chance of it being a mag issue.

Update

Ok guys,
Think i got this problem figured out and I think it was the ammo.
First ammo that I tried was Wolf Gold 150gr SP. This was the ammo that gave me the feeding problem. The nose of this ammo seemed to get really beat up as it was chambered and/or would not chamber at all.
I just tried some new ammo; a PMP 143gr FJBT and it works great. Chambers nicely and cycles fine. Would you agree that the profile of the bullet has something to do with this? The PMP stuff has a more tapered profile that helps it feed better? Bullet weight a factor? I hope this helps anyone that might have a problem.
Here are some pictures to illustrate the difference between the two rounds.
Regards,
Steve

Funny that for me it was the opposite. My rifle didn't like the pointy FMJ South African surplus and loved the Power Shok soft points with the blunt profile. And it was usually the left round that FTFed regardless of the kind of mag I used.
