Just got my 18.5" barreled M14S from CanAm, my first M14 style rifle. Took it apart and noticed I cant remove my gas piston because the bayo lug is in the way. I'm assuming this is because the rifle is supposed to be longer, good old Chinese engineering, etc.

Is this a common problem? Am I missing something? I'll probably just hack off the bayo lug tomorrow.

On another note, I had to grind down the mag rivets as they were not letting the mag release move far enough to release the magazine reliable. Other than that, I'm more than pleased with the rifle.

Yeah, I see that works. Wasn't sure if there was some other way since everyone seems so set on shimming. Didn't think shimming made sense if I'm constantly loosening it.

I was thinking of installing a gas lock front sight so guess I'll just have to change the flash suppressor.
