Fellows,
I have a new Norinco M14 and I do love it, but I hate the slimy wood that it has out of the box. I want to strip and refinish, but don't want to do any damage to it as I don't have another stock. I have heard these rifles basically come coated in cosmaline, but I don't really know what that is, other than apparently some industrial oil/lubricant. I have heard reference to "baking" it off in an oven, but haven't heard instructions. I've also seen a bit of a "how to" with an SKS stock in a dishwasher to remove to cosmaline, which seemed to work well, but the SKS stocks have no metal parts (I seem to remember). So...anyone have any instructions on how to clean up my stock and not lose any accuracy or do any damage?
