Is it safe to shoot 308 winchester factory hunting ammunition in these new rifles ??
I have run out of mil surp.
And I was wondering if 180 gr. hunting ammo, as in federal; is too hard on the OP Rod and bolt..
Or just 150 to 168 gr.
I read you can and can;t..
308 wincghester is loaded up to 62000 or so, maybe more.
I read 7.62 x 51 Nato is at 50,000 pressure.
I am not sure how the headspacing is on these ?/
Chamber size etc.>>
Not sure what to do. As there is no Surplus Nato here. ?
Any suggestions appreciated.
Rifle shoots great with iron sights. Thnx in advance..

I'm erring on the side of caution and avoiding the 180's. One guy said he was told by Springfield Armory that the occassional use of 180's was ok, but that use should be limited. For my hunting purposes, 150's or 168 should be plenty sufficient, so why chance it.

no problems shooting factory outta it...

dont go over the magical 168 gr though...

you can probably shoot a box or two or three if need be but it does damage the gas system.

you can turn the gas system off and the rifle would act like a straight pull rifle...

not a problem then.. u can use 180s then.

I'm running 150grn Federal ammo in mine but guys have been saying there are Kaboom issues with the federal ammo due to soft primers! Apparently it's not too big a problem as long as you keep your rifle Very clean! Clean the chamber and make sure your firing pin is clean and moving freely withing the bolt.
