M14s Scope Mount Saga

The McCann mount dates back to the early 1990s............it is the fore runner of many of todays better quality mounts.

I have tried most of the mounts on the market and the best one I had was the Smith Enterprise mount.

Yaaaay....good to hear. That's what I have on my shelf.:)

I too tried the ARMS 18 on my Norc and had a jamming issue plus eye relief issues. I tried the M14.ca mount it did not jam but the mount was not fully rugged enough. I was considering modding it so it also attached to the stripper clip guide this will give it some more stability and it could be very solid. The major drawback with it was you have to remove the sights. I am still searching for the best mount.
You figure the Chinese would jump at a new market and make the Norinco with a built in scope base. just my 2 cents.

As stated by the M14 doctor if you have this problem it is probably your extractor spring. I have the promag arms 18 knock off and have had 0 issues

FYI.......I initially trimmed the OEM spring and still had it happen. I then went and bought the replacement USGI spring kit which is also supposed to remedy the issue... still jams the brass.

Regards,

The Smith Enterprise mount works great, but I've also never had a jam with my old Gen 3 Springfield.

It looks to me like the reason you can't position your scope the way you want to with the Arms mount is because of your rings...they are super wide, and a bit "overkill" IMHO.

If you had some rings that didn't take up so much space you'd have a lot more adjustability front to back with your scope.

Yes. I gave up with my Norc and bought an LRB. The LRB M14-M25 Receiver solves the scope mounting problem by forming the front slot directly into the front of the receiver. Maybe Norinco will copy it. I would buy a couple more Norc's if they had an LRB style Receiver.

Will do!

Keep a camera handy, next time jams. Take some real good pics up close and email em to me

Roger that and thanks. BTW I will be putting my new shorty thru its paces tomorrow :50cal: and really looking forward to it.

I am sure I will be most pleased with its performance :D Thanks for that too and make sure to let me know when the stocks are done.

Fired zeroing with the new Leatherwood mount today. Everything went fine, no loosening. Next test Sat at the CQB.

Waching and reading with interest.

homeless,
you sent me a PM asking where I bought my Sadlak mount, you do not have your user CP set up to receive PMs so I was unable to answer you back.

I bought my Sadlak Airborne mount from Brownells Jan/2010, they shipped it to me no problem. They are pricey$$ mounts though.
