Hi everyone....

I was just wondering what the general feeling is on Flat-top or the carry handle A2 version of the Armalite m15, and what is essentially the better buy.

Should the A4 flattop version be the way to go, if you were to buy a new armalite??? I don't plan on buying a scope as of yet....

thanks for the insight....

I would recommand a A4 with a detachable carrying handle or a good BUIS, so if you decide in the future to put a scope, no problem !

Defiantly go with a flat top but if you don't plan on getting optics for a while get a removable carry handle and shoot it with irons. Good skill to be able to shoot with a carry handle A2 FSP.

Do you have a fixed Front sight on your A4 ?? or is it the picanty gass block ?
That's really up to you. Most people seem to keep the fixed front sights, whether it be for looks, or personal preference. Personally, I like the front sight assembly. I think they're sharp, and I have to ask, why screw with a good thing? You're inevitably going to want to put BUIS up there eventually anyhow...

Well.... i ended up going with the A2 version of rifle, fixed front sights and fixed carrying handle with a 16 inch barrell....., with the intention of swapping the upper reciever with a flat top sometime down the road.

Mind you i'm limited to a 100yd range so optics aren't a huge concearn. Both the A4 and A2 are priced the same... so i guess it's just a personal preferance.

It's up to you bud, but I would've gone with an A4. It's way easier to mount optics and you can choose the kind of iron you prefer... heck it gives you more versatility. I have an A4 and another on the way. I too only have access to a 100y range... but I have an Eotech and an ACOG TA31F. I have fun with both of them.

My first was an M15A2 too, I looked at buying an A4 upper but then said screw it and bought another complete gun. Still have both:)

I've always liked the look of the M4 A2's...... Just curious to see what others are interested in and what they think of both versions... btw i could never afford all those extra's you have.....lol.... you must be single....heheheheh

Anyway... gent's today is a great day none-the-less, she's paid for and on her way...........

Can you post some pics of your A4 on this thread so i can have a loook ??

I went with the A2 originally because of two good reasons

The A2 fixed sight/handle was how the M16 started out, I wanted something that was original.

They didn't have any A4's in stock.

My next rifle is going to be an A2 full length.

A2 20". Just because I prefer the one piece upper. Can still mount a scope when I want and doesn't lose "0".

I find most of the younger guys like the A4. I grew up in the days of the M16 so just a personal preference for the A2.

Just depends on what YOU prefer, not anybody else. If the A2 turns your crank, then go for one. If you like the A4 better, then that's the one for you. They shoot the same. It's just a question of permanently mounted sights & handle or removable stuff.
:ar15:

What would be more important to you is barrel length. Also mid-length, carbine or full length which will determine your sight picture by the spacing between sights. It also determines the location of the gas port and mid and full lengths are a little bit easier on the parts than the carbine length. Barrel length also has a factor in accuracy as well as the overall weight. Your next priority would be the stock. Full length or collapsible or adjustable. Which of those feels/looks better for you.

All these will change how the gun shoots and/or feels. A2 or A4 would only change how you position yourself for the sights and optics if any.

Ha ha ha!! I have a girlfriend... BTW, don't ask me how I could afford all those goodies..!

You're right on the fact that gent's today is a great day none-the-less. The main thing is to love what you've bought and not having "settled" for something just because it was in stock. I my book, having any AR (well, any from the good names) is a boon.
