Hi everyone,
My brother and I attended a gun show last weekend in search of more toys!! We walked in and right away I spotted 2 shotguns sitting on a table tucked into a far corner.
I went over and picked them up and right away I knew that they were either Gras or Chassepot. soon after Smellie arrived and identified both of them as Gras conversions.
They are quite an interesting conversion, their simplicity is what drew me to them. Anyhow here's some pics for anyone interested.
After cleaning one up I gave it a clean bill of health and decided to give her a test fire yesterday.
I trimmed some 12g hulls down to 2.5" which allowed them to chamber nicely. My load was a .690" round ball patched to about .710". For powder I used 70 grains of 2f powder and a milk carton wad. Recoil was nice and light and accuracy was pretty hood!!
She sure puts a good hole in a piece of 100 year old Douglas fur!!
I must say that although I spend most of my time trying to shoot tiny groups with my "modern" (modern being WW1 era) milsurps the more time I spend shooting antiques the more my brain says "you need more antiques!!"
Thanks for looking!!
