Hey guys so i've had a wtb for a few months now and was wanting to add one of these to my collection. I have never fired one nor handled one, just watched a few videos....boy ole Hickok45 is a great salesman lol!!

Does anyone actually own one of these unicorns? If so, would you recommend one? I have much more modern and cheaper calibers to shoot, so this would be pretty much for cool factor at the range when bringing out friends etc...

Thoughts good or bad?

There was a Swiss or Swede Nagant on the EE couple days back was fair priced too, but 7.5 Swiss is harder to find the Russian Nagant ammo. Always wanted one have not bit the bullet yet though, as I missed out on the cheap days. My 2 cents we always said should have bought low and sold high, maybe think about the TT-33 its cheap and I am sure it will not be cheap forever, 2million Nagants made 2million TT-33 made, makes you think.

Yeah saw the swiss and PS militaria has one as well in stock. I was wanting the 7.62 round so passed on it.
The hunt continues...

Sent you a pm with a lead on one for sale ;)

I see you are in Ottawa. If you are at EOSC and will provide ammo (I have none :( ) you can try out my 1937 example.

I've never actually shot mine, I only have it as something my great grandfathers would have carried while fighting each other in the Russian civil war (they were on opposite sides). Still looking for one from that period...

Interesting guns from sure. Reports of the fairly horrific trigger pull are accurate. But they are a pretty well made, reasonably accurate gun with little recoil.

Don't worry they show up. I personally have been looking for one for a while as well, I just get distracted and end up getting something else instead. Everytime some comes up for sale, it seems to be after I had just spent my money on something else.

I remember one month on the EE (not too long ago, maybe 4-6 months), there was three that came up, with the max price being 450$. They are out there, you just have to be patient. Check some gun shops sites, and maybe call around.

Remember a M1895 is not the same as the Swedish or Belgian Nagants. Those didn't have the gas seal feature to them.

Unless another shipment appears from somewhere that's where they are heading, The more rare a milsurp firearm becomes the more the price goes up, A few were listed on the EE a little while ago for $600 and they were gone in a few hours.

most I've seen for sale have import marks, which kills them for me. The century arms marks are sometimes engraved right across the whole side of the gun!

I have been a lifelong collector of Russian firearms of all kinds and I can tell you that you're not really missing anything. They are a pretty terrible revolver.

I picked one up awhile back. It's TERRIBLE in every way... trigger is horrible, reloading is a joke, sights are barely usable. I can't believe they're still in use by Russian railroad police officers!!

That said, i'll never sell it as its an integral part of the collection!

People who complain about sights and how M1895 is awkward or slow to load, have no leg to stand on. Its comparable to any firearm of that time plus 7 shot revolver wins over 6 shot any day . When last round is fired, shooter is left unarmed until he reloads. However only M1895 Nagant can be fired continuously without ever leaving shooter armless. This is accomplished by opening the loading gate and ejecting the spent case then placing in its spot loaded round all while revolver is cocked with next round and with finger on the trigger. This can be done until shooter runs out of ammo or firefight is over.
No other revolver is capable of doing this. This is why 1895 is 7 shot and its why it uses this odd duck cartridge and why it was in service as long as it was.

No other revolver is capable of doing this.

Except the most famous revolver of all: the Colt SAA...

In my experience innovation is always copied... The gas-seal cylinder mechanism was not used on any other firearm I'm aware of. I wonder why?!?!

The .455 Webley Mk1 was introduced 6 years before the Nagant was initially issued... I own both and can tell you which I'd rather carry!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Again, a collectible I will never part with; I'm just saying it isn't a unicorn people should spend a scad of money on acquiring.

Hey i totally understand this thing wont be a tack driver, i just think the "cool" factor is pretty high and considering its age and history that makes it more enjoyable that the multitude of wonder guns out there right now.

Still gonna try and find one if i can.
Thanks for all the info so far.

Well again apples and oranges comparison here. This thread is about m1895 not colts or weblies.
Again m1895 is the only revolver with which gate loading on #### can be safely done in firefight. Cartridge is the answer and gas seal is the key. It can be fired with hands around the cylinder.
If you try to do it with the most famous revolver of all time, youd blow your own fingers off while replacing cartridges.
M1895 wins hands down.
Compact and effective m1895 is what doctor ordered for russian army.
Its service record is well known and id take it to shoot paper any day with me
