I had one once upon a time, a sporter in a Herters stock, and it was a good reliable rifle. It was not as good a shooter as the M-17 Enfield that replaced it though.
There doesn't seem to be many 03 or 03A3's around. I have 8 of them in my collection and I find the C stock better to shoot than the straight stock. The P-17 is much heavier and better to shoot as far as recoil goes. I just like the short compact look of the original 03's with the rear mounted on the barrel. But the rear sights on the 03 A3's because the peep is easier to use for the older guys with bi-focal glasses.
I think Sgt. York used a P-17 when he took all the German prisoners in WWI.
Few and far between, in decent condition, up here. I haven't seen one even in reasonable condition for years. Then there's the whole 'low' and 'high' serial number issue that applies to 1903's only. It doesn't apply to 1903A3's.
Are you serious?
Wolverine wants $1500 for a Smith-Corona 03 A3. Who would pay that much for one.
I bought a new one with the stock cut for $50 last year. I restored it with a new stock and all the original metal and found the correct missing parts on eBay. It doesn't have a Smith Corona Stock but is a good example. I do have a new 03 A3 by Remington that I got on trade years ago but came with the grenade sight and launcher.
