So , i have a question, my stepdad recently gave me a rifle that he has had forever (atleast since the 70's), he doesn't know alot about the history of it, but it's chambered in 30-06, and according to the research i 've done; it seems to be a sporterized M1903 . it has a shortened barrel, and an action that is smooth as silk and shoots like a dream. are these a common rifle ?, any info would be gretaly appreciated, thanks

"...these a common rifle?..." They are to the U.S. that the No. 4 Lee-Enfield is to Canada. Thousands of 'em 'sporterized' after both wars. It started out with a 22" barrel. That one is likely a commercial barrel.
"...Bet she has..." The time it takes for your ears to a stop ringing from the muzzle blast and noise negates any felt recoil.
