ive owned this rifle 4 years...m1910 ross ...........has always worked a ok.

was at range last weekend , and had 2 slam fires ..........out of 45 rounds ,,,,,,all ammo were 15+ year old reloads / mild loads nothing unusual.

the 2 slam fires happened randomly no warning or reason i could notice.

any ideas on why ? i think its my old crappy reloads . maybe a slightly high primer? checked my other ammo all looks ok.

bolt is proper assembled no other issue or clue i can see.
 
About the only way that this could happen is if the cocking piece is slipping off the sear.
Make sure that the cocking piece is being securely caught by the sear, that the trigger mechanism is positively engaging, and that the cocking piece cannot slip.
Double check for broken parts.
 
only happened twice on this one occassion , all looks ok it also only happened with reloads not the factory ammo i shot as well.. if it happens again ill detail strip and look for issues you have mentioned.
 
UPDATE ------DISSASSEMBLED RIFLE all trigger group looks ok but on reassembly i was working the bolt an discovered if i work the action slowly,deliberatly , it functions fine, BUT if i try for rapid fire or work the bolt roughly the sear doesnt catch ............... quite often .

on the day in question i was firing or trying to fire quickly and was working the bolt aggressively.
NOW .......

1---HOW EASY OR TOUGH TO TAKE THE TRIGGER GROUP off an APART and reassembled ? any advise or hints .

and
2--- as to the possibly worn sear how easy or tough to find such a part or could i get this part repaired back to functioning.

any info most welcomed / thanks

If it's happening only with reloads, check that out first. Measure the Reloaded cases and make sure you cam over the brass in the die. I can't imagine that it is undersized. Perhaps a little oversized and a high primer?

Mk. III trigger group can be disassembled quite easily, and it is not difficult to locate parts.
 
UPDATE .......... got a replacement trigger group from QM 86 87 ----------THANK YOU !
after getting the trigger group off and comparing mine to the one i recieved the PROBLEM looked obvious .........there is a spring in the top portion of the trigger mechanize.

in mine it looks like some previous own lost that and replaced it with what looks like a spring from a cheep pen !!
so it worked but only for slow fire if bolt was operated too quickly or forcefully it slam fired.

COULD THIS have been the issue causing the slam fires ?

NOW
with the propper larger spring and replacement trigger group i cannot get the ross to slam fire ( dry fire attempts of course ) i also notice a change in the trigger pull ( slightly harder)
or
was bubba hoping the pen spring would be a lighter pull? any info most welcomed .
 
Could have been a home gunsmithing attempt, either replacing a broken spring or trying for a lighter pull. You will never know truly know unless you could contact whoever did it.
