M1912 steyr hahn chamber repair question

Tokguy, I've seen it done differently but what you describe would work. I would think "shrink fit" rather than "press fit"

The method I described involved silver soldering a piece of barrel metal into the chamber and reaming a 9x19 chamber after. The two pistols I saw done this way worked well. However, I believe the recoil springs were changed out for heavier springs.

I can respect your input on the topic. I sourced a bbl from a retired 'Smith. He said that's how he did them...it was a double deal..."go for it" I says

Actually I'd bet a round Timmies coffee that a 9 x 23 Steyr won't chamber or fire 9 x 19 Para; you would be forcing a 9.93 base into a 9.7 chamber. It'll start to chamber, then choke up about 2/3's of chambering completely.
The 'Old school' way of converting these involves machining out the chamber and pressing in a 'sub chamber' so speak.
They handle it OK, but the bbl & slide need to be fitted IMO.

Im no smith but both my 1912 in 9x23 Steyr will feed, chamber and clic on 9 para snap cap

Compare the size of the shell bases. One could certainly open up the mouth of the chamber to run 9 x 19...is it still safe to run 9 x 23 Steyr though?

Little known, useless and (at the least) a foolish plan...but you can run 30-40 Krag through a 303 Br. I know this because I've a 30-40 and a 303 Br...I'm guessing that someone couldn't get 30-40 brass so they fire formed 303 Br to the Krag...can you see where this is going, LOL?
War time expedients doesn't mean that you should...likely they had to. Apparently you can shoot 9 x 19 in an 38/200 Enfield too...I'll just step back about 7-8 paces when you try that, K?
An un-bubba'd Steyr won't ( or shouldn't ) chamber 9 x 19 and 9 x 23...they both headspace off the case mouth no? so if you open the bbl throat to accept 9 x 19...it'll have a 4mm jump til the bullet hits the headspace ring (term?) for the 9 x 23 S...that seems that a sketchy scenario to me.
Anyone else see a hazard here...or just me?

According to Wikipedia: “After Germany annexed Austria in 1938, the Wehrmacht ordered 60,000 M1912 pistols rechambered to 9mm Parabellum which remained in service until the end of World War II.”

Yes and these are VERY desirable for obvious reasons!

But you can find Steyr its not that rare or extremely expensive. Buffalo Arms is another source.

fiochi still makes ammo for it.i have 4 boxes here plus 100 fired cases.they pop up once in a while at gun shows
