I just got a M1917 rifle or i think it is its been cut down it has markings on the barrel of R.E. and markings of what looks like a crown wirh BM in it and it has .303 in front of it. and looks like twin rifles with b ,b,b and what looks like a little crown with a dimond or somthing on top of it. its a serial number 368772 thanks if you can let me know what it is. i think its a .303 cal but iam not shure. P.S. Thanks Andrew i can sed a pic of it if it helps

Sounds like a P14 rather than a P17. They are essentially the same rifle. The P17 was chambered in .30-06. Slug the barrel. Hammer a cast .30 calibre bullet through the barrel and measure it with a micrometer. If it reads .308", it's a P17 and is chambered in .30-06. Around .311" to .315", it's a P14 chambered in .303 British. Don't shoot it until you're sure.
Given the markings, I suspect it's a P14.

Umm... @holeshotrider - you do know you replied to a NINE YEAR OLD thread, right? That has to be a new record.
