M1a Aia 10 round mags

On the few threads regarding these magazines I’m still not 100% sure they are legal. Does anyone have any experience with them? I would like to pick a few of these up but I don’t think I could explain to an officer why I have them without owning the rifle they are intended for.

The maximum permitted capacity of a magazine is determined by the kind of firearm it is designed or manufactured for use in and not the kind of firearm it might actually be used in. As a consequence, the maximum permitted capacity remains the same regardless of which firearm it might be used in.

A similar example is the 10 round capacity magazine for the Rock River Arms LAR-15 pistol, regardless of the kind of firearm it is actually used in.

IF, you decide to try them, I recommend the Israelli made E-lander mags. They work the best and have printed on the side of them in bright letters "for use in AIA type tifles". Therefore not an M14 mag.
I have an original Australian International Arms mag that has no markings and likes to pop out of my rifle on recoil.
 
I've been using them for awhile. Only issue is because the rear lug is only slightly shorter (<1mm) they don't lock high enough to engage the bolt catch effectively.
 
I got 5 israeli e lander last year and shot about 800 rnds through them. In my rifle they are not as reliable as the original mag : I get stovepipes and occasional misfeeds. Wear is rising the frequency enough that now I only use the stock one. Sad to shoot a semi if you get frequent jams, even 1/30 is too much. The original makes the rifle 99.9% reliable. I am actually looking for 10/5 m305 or m14 mags because the size of the 10/10 is perfect for handling.

I haven't had any feeding issues with the elander mags, norinco and kci mags yes

Which Norinco mags?

There are two basic types: The internally limited type, grey park, parked follower - these are basically MILSPEC and have worked in every rifle I've tried unless the rifle itself was bad. Sometimes these mags have tack welded bottom plates, sometimes not. They are limited because the follower itself has a long piece of metal on the bottom of it.

The second type has a blued follower and generally they are rivetted on the bag body to limit capacity - most mags now sold are this type. They are usually a tighter fit in most guns and the follwers are NOT milspec. When I get these mags, I try to look for GI followers to replace the blued ones - they aren't reliable and don't allow the BHO to function.

I have one of the welded bottom ones it works better than the pinned ones

The riveted ones yes have bolt hold open issues as well as feeding issues, the feed lips seem weaker or thinner and they induce a decent amount of malfunctions. (rounds popping out of the mag, partway, as well as the follower getting jammed sideways in the mag body)

elanders work but are expensive and arent full length.

I like the black high gloss European made (polish?) Corwinarms was selling.

I would like to get some checkmate industries ones to try as well as some USGI.
 
My 10rd AIA mags work quite well in my Springfield M1A and TRW/Norc hybrid, but neither lock open on the last round reliably. Feeding has no issues.

i found when i changed the bolt hold open out for an aftermarket one it improved its reliably. factory norinco seemed to start to peen out
 
As long as you don't modify them (make the square hole in the front) they are legal in anything they'll fit/function in. If you modify it you can't use it in the M14 any more.
Tier One Armoury in Edmonton had a pile of them in stock when I was in there the other day. Give them a call if you're looking for some.
