M1A Bolt Disassembly with Brownell's Tool

Get a large zip tie and use it to hold the handle down. You can slide it on and off as needed, but it frees up both hands for doing things like holding the tool and tapping the pin with a hammer. To get it back together, I push in on the ball very lightly with a small screwdriver before pushing down on the ejector. That way you aren't putting as much side pressure on the pin that inserts into the spring. I've never had to cut a spring to do any of this.

It also isn't a bad idea to do the dis-assembly in a plastic bag to catch the flying bits.
