I was just wondering if anyone knew if a Folder like on the old Bush rifles would still keep a M1A non-restricted or not ??

as long as the barrel is still over 18.5 inches and the folded overall length is more the allowed length ( can't remember what it is and i'm to lazy to find it) it is fine.

i've got one, and it sits almost all the time in the closet looking pretty- cost was 180 bucks through springfield armory in 1990 dollars- that one's been modded as the real ones have the sling swivels on the LEFT SIDE of the stock and gives a straight line for the sling, not a twist like that- of course, if you get one , you have to do all the usual mods for the norc as the stock is built for the m1a/real m14 series , same as fitting a usgi stock to a norc.
now for the real review- THIS THING IS UNCOMFORTABLE AS HELL TO SHOOT- there needs to be a MUCH BIGGER recoil pad on the back end, and it is VERY SIMILAR TO AN NO5 JUNGLE CARBINE PAD- in other words its HARD RUBBER and makes your shoulder sore - moreover, the big botton to fold/deploy the stock takes a good bit of leverage to push, then you have to swing the stock into position and pull down on lower arm to lock that in place- when i get the time i'm going switch the m14 that it's cUrrently on back and sell the stock to SOME TECHOID CHUMP -THE LAST ONE ON E-BAY WENT FOR 950 US
ONE MORE NOTE- THAT'S A REPLACEMENT WOOD STOCK and not a very good mod - made from a shortened usgi wood stock- and if i can spot that , it's not good-and as far as putting a decent recoil pad on there, you can't just stick it on with a couple of bolts without increasing your length of pull- the backing plate is too thin- but answer the original question- it doesn't on a regular rifle, just like adding a folder to a 10/22 or a mini 14

the reese ones are now missing the under support beam -they used to be a good mimic, but the rifle needs that support

I like them personally.I have no trouble at all with the recoil at all and I am not a big guy at all. I think the biggest issue that I find with them is the lack of a good cheak weld . I have thought about making one from the butt of a junk M14 or garand stock. I am not too good with wood though.....I have them on all of my BM59's and several of my M14 clones . I need to inlet one for my Garands .
Andy in Italy has the BM59 stocks for the garand guys ,but like DaveGP mentioned the metal and grip are from the BM59 and I am sure that you could buy the wood only from Reese. I bought new M14 wood for one of mine about a year ago. I think I paid about $85 or so.

Folder Regulations

If a firearm has a folding stock and the overall length is 26", it isn't a problem. With the exception of centerfire semi's.

Check it out on the CFC sight.
I have had quite a few folding stock firearms over the years and in the case of center fire semi's, the barrel has to be 18 1/2" or more and overall length of 26".
With the pump or multi barrel shotguns they have to have an overall length of 26" or more to stay in the non-restricted class. You see shotguns advertised with a 12" barrel or less they still have the non folding stocks attached to keep them within the regulations.
