Hey guys, I'm in the market for a semi auto 308, just wondering how these 2 different platforms stack up against each other, accuracy, reliability, quality etc

Thanks for your input/info its appreciated

My vote is for.neither... My experience has shown they will both eventually make you sad when you figure out what you bought... If you have a little extra cash...

Fn fnar or modern hunter for the win. Yes they are more money than a chinese gun with very poor qc... But not much more than the xcrm

An M1A loaded is not a chinese gun, it's american made with a very good finish. You will get very good accuracy from a high end m14 clone, I'm sure a few guy could vouch for it.
I'm not sure if the modern hunter comes with a medium barrel, but if not and you plan on shooting lots of round at the range, you are better with a medium weight barrel from a high end m14.
I don't know much about the XCR but you can swap caliber easily so it's a cool feature.

What do you want to do with it? What's your budget? The M1A Loaded is going to run you over 2.5 grand. The XCR-M runs 3 grand at Frontier. Wouldn't pay that much myself.
However, the Loaded is more like a target rifle(match grade barrel, sights and trigger.) than an XCR-M(has a barrel, sights and trigger.) will ever be. $32.99Cdn for an XCR mag. $35.00 for a 20/5 M1A mag. About $20 for a 5 rounder.
An M1A Loaded is not a Chinese gun, it's made in Brazil and marketed in the U.S.

I have owned a number of Chinese M14's and I realize they aren't Springfields. That being said, I still did like them and they were good guns. I currently own an XCR-M that I won't be selling anytime soon. The XCR's ergos are second to none and the ease to which optics can be mounted is really nice. The prices on all these rifles are ridiculous and basically we are paying the non-restricted tax in this country.

Straight up answer , between the 2 you mentioned I would buy the M1A. Lots of support for M14 platform rifles out there, not that youd need it with a loaded M1A mind you but if you wanted to upgrade or change out any parts theres loads out there. Also mags are decently cheap and plentiful and it can be great scoped or with irons. Youll get decent accuracy as well, especially with decent ammo. Also if you bed the rifle and do a few teaks here and there its basically a match rifle. Finally Springfield has a lifetime warranty on their rifles and stand by them.

He is not asking about a Norc! While some of the parts are made offshore the Springer is still assembled in the US and have the receivers cast in Canada. I have a NM M1a and have to say they are a beautiful gun( Only issue you may find is a bad extractor but so far has been unfounded on my NM M1a). If you can find an FN FNAR jump on it as they are a beauty, but there's nothing wrong with the springer either. I have shot an XCR a couple times and it didn't really do much for me.

I'm with Jerry Champagne on this one. The XCR certainly does not have the proven battlefield record that the M14 format does.
On that basis alone I'd swing for the M1a

On the other hand, nobody has mentioned the FAMAE SG 542-1 rifle. It too has battle time and would be worth consideration, although parts and support expertise would be harder to come by than the M1a.

I would have a hard time picking one up over the other one, both my FNAR Competition HB and my NM M1A have their own niche and are awsome in it... JP.

Buying an FNAR is too much like buying a Browning BAR hunting rifle.... BORING! Im waiting on the Canadian dollar to catch up more to the US dollar, when it does.. BOOM, im buying a SA NM M1A!

Calgary Shooting Centre is the warranty depot for the ERE imported FAMAE SG series. I know they have parts and very knowegable techs in house. Tactical Imports doesn't seem to have spares as far as I can tell.

As far as what rifle to recommend, I own all 3 and personally prefer the MIA Loaded. The other 2 are fine, in paticular the XCR M seems to be well finished, but there is just something about steel and wood :)

Not trying to knock the MH. But at that price it should keep with a GAP10. I'm yet to see any pictures of groups that convince me it's even in the same league.
I don't doubt it's a great rifle. But not 4k great. Having said that I haven't owned one Just going off the research I have done.

Have you heard of the " MODERN HUNTER" built by Alberta Tactical Rifle Supply? Better than either in my opinion.

can't really say that until there is a bunch of modern hunters out there with range reports and torture tests performed by a pile of end users. not to knock the modern hunter I'm sure time will show it to be a great rifle.
I really like my high end accurized m14 type rifles and have never had one shred of interest in owning an xcr of any kind.
