M1A loaded or XCR-M

can't really say that until there is a bunch of modern hunters out there with range reports and torture tests performed by a pile of end users. not to knock the modern hunter I'm sure time will show it to be a great rifle.
I really like my high end accurized m14 type rifles and have never had one shred of interest in owning an xcr of any kind.
If i may ask what kind of cash do you have into your most expensive m14 type?

In my books, anyone who is considering dropping $2000+ on a rifle of any sort should try to get in touch with some guys that already own said rifles & shoot 'em first! Otherwise you could end up with something that you're gonna have to try & unload on the EE for 10-15% less than you paid for it.

5800.00 not including optics (fully loaded LRBm25,krieger barrel, trw, sadlak, smith enterprise ect ect..... it's silly I know)
I probably have about 10,500.00 tied up in 3 m14 type rifles LOL

I acquired a used LRB barreled receiver and ordered up all GI parts from Treeline. Have a Smith mount and good iron brake. A Boyds or GI glass stock to use as mood suits. Put a Leupold 3.5-10 X40 LRT M3 on it. I figure right around $5500. It's not hard to do. I kept that 18.5" criterion Thomas as you recommended and it's grown on me. Funny the only short barreled M14 I own and the only scoped one but it sure feels handy. I can see why a guy would hunt with one like it. But then my hunting rifles wouldn't get out.

Wow thanks for that. I had my hands on a modern hunter at a show and did a field strip, I was quite impressed. It is built stronger than a typical AR type rifle. It's like an FN C1 but with direct impingement. Just saying.

From another lover of the M14/M1A/305 platform I know how 45acpking feels. The rifles just do it for me plain and simple. You can do so much with the platform. Obtain and install the best or desired parts, modify, tinker, pimp out, build, whatever your heart desires with these rifles. I would bet his $5800 rifle looks, feels and shoots like a dream. Theres just something about an M14 I love and a lot of people love to. If you invest in one or find one to shoot before investing you may get the bug as well. These rifles with quality parts and some tweaking can/will be excellent shooters, above and beyond what you imagine sometimes. They are a labor of love and the end products are awesome all around, my M14 platform rifles are among the few I never consider selling and among the top that I shoot regularly. Pretty much every time I get a new firearm and go to shoot it I bring the M1A along too, I can't fight it, lol.

I've shot many different types of rifles; bolt action .270, 7mm, .300 mag, couple different AR's, 30-30 levers, etc. & they were cool. The first time I shot my Norc m14 I had a smile I couldn't wipe off my face until I went to bed that night!! They just have such a solid feeling of power that can't be matched by any other regularly available rifle I've ever shot; kinda like driving a 1969 500 horsepower, 4speed muscle car after bopping around town in a Ford Ecoboost!

I never shot a M14/M1A, but I own a XCR-M. It is a solid rifle, it gets the job done, but there are some factors to consider.
First of all, XCR-M is nose-heavy. Mine in particular, is an early model with heavy barrel. It is the heaviest XCR you can ever find.
Second, my XCR does yield 1 MOA grouping. What I heard from folks from Reliable Gun, is that M1A is capable of sub-MOA grouping. If you are looking for some sort of precision rifle, go for M1A.
Third: M14/M1A have a lot of after-market stuffs out there, while XCR's options are limited. This should be noted if you are into modification.

LRB M25 in 18.5" would be my choice too, I'd consider the Modern Hunter as well.

the ONLY reason I haven't jumped on a modern hunter, as I have every intention of doing so, is that a buddy moving out of country last summer offered me his firearms collection which included a PGW timberwolf custom rifle and a few others. seriously tapped me out LOL I've got a couple bolt gun builds and a DA/ATRS 50 BMG to get paid for , then I'll probably add a modern hunter to the stable as finances permit.

Couldn't have put it better.....WAY FUN to shoot and just damn cool.

So many peoples are talking of getting a perfect NR 308 SA rifle. I was leaning toward one myself but since i am getting so much success with my FNAR, my search is over... The FNAR is the best kept secret on the market... JP.
