M1A/M14 NM Front and Rear Sights

looks like you found the problem. put some plasticine clay from your kids toybox in there to see where the high spot is for each ear. do a search, it's happened before.

I posted a while back about needing to fit some sights and the steps I took with that particular receiver.
We all want stuff to just drop in and many times they do, especially all those refurbed world war II m1 garand sights everyone was buying up a couple years or so ago.
So, you have a sight set, designed and machined (we hope) to NM tolerances... Be warned, really, one should almost "expect" to have to do some fitting.
Jerry Kuhnhaussens shop manual from brownells gets right into the nitty gritty of this topic.
While yer at brownells ordering an NM front sight, add the kuhnhaussen 30 cal service rifle handbook to your order.
MUST have kit for those modding their own rifles.

Marstar recently listed NM m14 rears for 99 bucks.... In canada even ... Not sure if they sold out

Thanks guys.....Lol just got my order in from Brownells for my front sight post never knew about the book. So the best place to start would be on the receiver ears then with a light sanding?

On the set I had issues installing(that I posted about as there has been many) , I swapped the NM sight cover for the norinco sight cover. NM one was too long and too stiff even when following kunhaussen's methods of altering sight cover tension.
Then, both sight ears also needed to be reduced and radius matched to sight base.

If yer gonna modify the receiver sight ears, have a jiffy marker handy. Once you remove the parkerizing, and in between test fits, colour the shiny areas. You will quickly see where there is unwanted contact or binding as the parts leave witness marks on the coloured surfaces.
Sand paper is a bad idea, you want a hard flat object like a "skate" file or a flat stone. Using anything else will make a mess and round off edges that you want hard and flat.

That's all I got for ya. The individuality of many fitment issues are just too difficult to explain without writing a book LOL
and I don't do videos LOL
