M1A/M305 for 2009 hunting season anyone?

Since I had just bought my M14s a day before heading up to Sault St. Marie, and hadn't had a chance to play with it yet, I took out my trusty Springfield M1D. Didn't see a freakin' thing all week. Good thing I was mostly sitting as the thing weighs a ton. Just walking through the bush with it without all of the extra gear they had in WWll makes you really appreciate what they had to deal with. Not to mention, deer don't shoot back...

I am going to try the M14s next year after I have time to play with it and put a scope on her.

I take mine north for deer. Had an OPP officer tell me if I missed I could just club it to death:D My arms are a little longer having to carry it around but it's nice to know it will always go bang and hit where it's aimed. No deer yet but I've got a few rabbits and a grouse that i didn't even have to clean. I just brushed off the feathers and there was two tasty breast fillets.
Cheers to all of you who fly in the face of liberal logic and take this semi auto workhorse into the woods to put food on the table:cheers:

Hey Brobee, I hunt with my Springfield M1A almost all the time ... depends on if I grab it from my qamutiq(wooden sled) first or my Sigarms .223 ... :p I just went hunting for Umingmak(muskox) last weekend and unfortunately did not find any ... but between my girlfriends father and I we shot 10 tuktu(caribou). I do hunts on baffin island sometimes(although it's been about 3 yrs since I last went) during fall time where we walk inland from the community with a large backpack and rifle and get tuktu(caribou). Last time I went we walked approx 5 miles in ... shot our tuktu, cut them up, put'em in the backpacks and walked out ... I have pics I'll have to dig up. I swear by ROCHELLE as she never lets me down ... :D

Any of you guys think the M14 would be okay for Moose hunting? I know the .308 is considered small nowadays, because of all of the Magnum rounds out there, but I doubt a Moose would really tell the difference if it got hit with one.

blueflash, if I can knock down a muskox with one shot from a store bought powerpoint 308 bullet 180 grainer in my Springfield M1A ... you can certainly knock down a moose ... shot placement is key ... ;) :D Good luck and happy hunting!

Ya, I figured that. I just sold my Mod 700, in .300winmag, that I used to use for Moose hunting. I stopped going Moose hunting, but If I ever decided to go again I just wanted to be sure that I wont be undergunned with a .308, but I think it will work fine. Alot of the older guys I used to hunt with say that a .270 was a great Moose round.

Just wanted to see what everyone had to say about though.
