Hi everybody, I have a Springfield Armory M1A Socom II and I wanted to throw a new flash surpressor on it while keeping the iron sight. How would I go about doing that? Ive heard some stories of people having cycling problems with aftermarket muzzle breaks on socoms. And the iron sight and muzzle break are one piece... So I dunno what parts I might need.

Is your barrel threaded or does it have the slots to hold the current flashider on ?

If you wanted the slotted version Brownells and a guy on the EE have one of these. I put one on one of mine and am happy with it and if I remember correctly it was about $110 shipped from Brownells

What's the thread spec on the socom? You should be able to find something, even though it might have to be custom. I've handled the socoms but don't have the info on the muzzle thread as I know it is somewhat different from the standard castlenut/splineway feature found on the 18", 18.5" and 22" american spec barrels.

Does the DC fit a 16" socom?
Regardless I'd go check out smith enterprises catalog , if anyone"s gonna have something for the socom's stubby muzzle, it would be them.

Is the thread integral with the gas lock instead of being on the barrel?

If this is the case, think that it might be 5/8-24.

A Socom II has the muzzle device attached to a threaded gas lock. The threads are 5/8-24, so there's a wide array of things that will work. There's a guy on the EE selling some Battle Comps that will work, and work extremely well, but they definitely aren't cheap. Conversely, I'm sure Dlask makes something that will work, too. Smith's DC coast guard and vortex models are appropriately threaded as well, if you can get your hands on one.

As for the sight, you merely need to spin the existing muzzle device off the gas lock and replace it with a new one. The sight will stay attached to the gas lock.

The stock flash supressor and sight mount are one piece on the socom ii I have a flash supressor on one of my norincos that i want to use, i was just wondering if there is a part that can perform nessesary gas functions, hold the trijicon front sight and offer threading for the flash suppresor i already have. Also do different companies use different threading?

If it's the one-piece dsign, you'll need a SOCOM threaded gas lock; Smith makes one that has the front sight dovetail on it. And yes, most .308 muzzle devices use the same threading. In any case, your YHM flash suppressor will thread onto it. As for keeping the pressure curve up to operate the action... that I don't know!

No, but they look interesting. That said, they'd have to be damn good to lure me away from the SEI navy brakes.

As for the gas lock, I paid that much for the gas lock alone here in Canada. Apparently the Canadian translation of "Smith Enterprise," when combined with "SOCOM II" sounds like "open your wallet."

Sir I 2nd your Moton to AWSOME.

I am most pleased with mine.
Yep I agree as I too stole Skullboy's ideas as I chop moded 1 to ream it out and put on a SEI Vortex but I did not like those HK style sight's at all and got the Doc to do his magic.
