M1A National Match value?

A friend of mine is trying to sell me his National Match and I don't want to over pay or under pay.

I don't have any pics yet, bet here's what I do know.

He bought it in 2002 used. Round count is unknown, as is manufacture date. I know he has only put 20 shells through it, and it is in mint condition.
Stock is walnut, and dosent have any dings in it.
Has a blued barrel
Smith Enterprise muzzle break.
Nation Match sights
I'm not sure yet, but he may be including an Arms mount.

Just looking for a ballpark price on what would be fair to both of us.
 
If everything including the bore looks perfect max I would pay is 80% of new cost. Normally a relatively common production rifle I would only say 70%, but this isn't a Savage.
 
I couldn't find any canadian prices on a new Nation Match. But they sell for roughly $1800-$1900 US. That came out to around $2300 CDN. I know that doesn't include what it cost to import. So I still don't have a good # to go off.
I know what he really wants is $2500, I think he'd sell it to me for $2000 though.

Just so you know . I paid $3000 taxes in for a Super match

Isn't the Super Match around $1000 more than the National Match?

He has one of those too, but he ain't selling it.

Just PM me with the description, whether wood , stainless, etc and I can let you know what retail is. Also, just because the barrel is marked NM, doesn't mean the rifle is, that may be a 'loaded' not the full NM. At 2000 its a steal whether loaded or the full NM, with Can$ so low the regular ones will be all of $2000 now.
 
When our dollar was at or close to par they were selling for 2699.00 asking price, with the change in our dollar vs the American greenback if everything else is equal expect to pay about 3100 plus tax and shipping for a NM M1a providing all costs are the same. Deduct from that considering its used, however with it being older production you may have the bonus of some USGI parts on said rifle, that would be a huge bonus! Buy it, shoot it, and enjoy it :). I picked one up for a screaming deal a month ago, and am just waiting for it to warm up SOME so I can get out and put it through its paces. If you decide you don't want it, let me know I may decide I need another!!!!
 
It is indeed a National Match. He called in the serial # when he bought it. I have no reason to not believe him. He's a honest guy and a M1A aficionado.

So the scope base is actually a Springfield, not ARMS. But I don't think I'd use that one anyway.

So it sounds like $2000 is a good deal for me. Not so much for him?

I'll see if I can get some pics from him and I'll post them up when I get a chance.
 
There is a born on date data base on the M14 forum. That or you can contact Springfield Armory by email and they will let you know when it was born and what ### it was originally. It can give you an idea what parts it should have if you do some research. GI parts are sporadic through SA production. The numbers got lower for a period of time in the 1990's until more GI parts became available and now the newer ones have very few. Not that it's a bad thing but it can have some effect on value. Older 5 line SA rifles are more desirable due to the higher GI parts count.
 
ya, I'd pay 2k for that one for sure and giggle like a school boy while carting it home...... and I'm a known springfield hater LOL
it appears to be a usgi parts model with a smith enterprise muzzle device.
hopefully it shoots as good as it looks ;)

At that price its too good of a deal to turn down. He knows he can get more for it, but he really wants me to have it, so he'll at least he'll have a chance to buy it back one day if I ever decide to sell it.

So how were you able to tell it has USGI parts?
