If I want to buy a M1A here in New Zealand I have to pay NZ$5000 = US$3500

http://www.trademe.co.nz/Sports/Hunting-shooting/Rifles/auction-247775329.htm

So I bought a Norc for NZ$600 and Im now in the process of customizing it by installing a scope but have run into the problem of the only scope mounts avilible here in NZ are cheap Chinese Alloy copies of the Springfield Armoury mounts

Brutal... I lived in New Zealand for three and a half years. Loved every minute of it...

Sorry to hear about the trouble. I always thought it was funny how hard somethings were to get there, and vice versa here. It's weird; You'd think with this "global economy" we'd have access to products through the intenet, etc, from anywhere but often you can't buy them even if you want to pay the crazy expensive shipping!

What do you need? Any chance you can order from overseas? Or do I feel an Aussie trip accross the Tasman comming on?

Cheers,

CE

There are a few versions of the mounts. Marstar sells one (thinks its Canadian made). You basically get what you pay for.

When my friend Gerard moved back to NZ from Canada this last Feb, he exported his Tikka T3 in .270 Win that he hunted with here for 3 seasons. He loves that rifle, and didn't want to have to sell it, so went throught the expense and paperwork. He emailed me back to say that even after all the expense, and initial purchase, it still saved him almost $800 kiwi. Now ammo is another matter, the Federal Fusions capped with Nosler Ballistic Tips run $80 to $85 a box. I guess unless it's made from wool or sheep bones, the prices will reflect the shipping. I think he told me the T3's are priced at around $2400 there.

I would just hate to see what my Sharps rifles would cost me over there. :puke:

Like Ranger Dave says they are costly here too. I have a national match coming around December, it will be over $3000

Mounts

Kiwi68, did you buy yours from Reloaders or Gun City?

Gun City have a range of mounts. The only low/arms style mount was a promag one. Basically a copy of the arms mount. Quality looks good.

List price was $300 but the real price after negotiations was $200 so comparable to getting something shipped.

Only issue I have with mine is that when fitted it's not level front to back. I think this is the dimensions of the stripper clip guide rather than the mount.

I bought it from GunCity as for the Bsquare mount the reloaders are selling it hasn't got a good reputation here in NZ thats why I'm looking fot a ARMS #18 mount or a SADLAK mount in steel but I keep running into the same problem of that the US state Dept has classifed these as restricted items.

The US Govt are hypocrites, they talk about free trade between friendly countrys but only when it benifits them

I paid a little over $3,000.00 CDN to have a Custom M14S from LRB Arms, and that included bringing it into Canada. Their Forged M25 receiver has both front and rear scope mount slots machined directly into the receiver.

A Match M1A is going to cost you almost as much. You will save your self much grief if you build your Rifle with this receiver, then you won't have to worry about ARMS18 mounts, etc, which I had nothing but problems with. If you are going to spend this much money anyways, take a good look at LRBs receiver. I reload, and I regularly shoot less than 1MOA with my LRB.

Best price that I have seen for nori., m14 is $529. better deal in NZ?

Two retailers imported them into nz.

Gun city. They charge like a wounded bull but I got my wood stocked one for $599 in the fathers day sale. They also auction them for $1 reserve and the last couple went for around $500. $200 more for the plastic stocked one. Also you only get one mag.

Reloaders Supplies. They only brought in the plastic stocked ones in. $699 or two for $1300 and they come with two mags.

Is there any reason why you have ruled out the promag mount? It mounts exactly the same way as the ARMS mount and is made out of steel. They had a couple left so if you talk them down to $200 it might save you a lot of trouble.

I have never heard of promag, but I have to say I have never had any good experiece's buying copies of quality products in the past, thats why I'm wanting to buy a genuine product.

Amen brother. I had a much longer reply but I just get PO'd with I have to deal with US export controls. Free trade? What the hell is that?

I E-mailed Wolverine about buying from them and they said they can not ship to an oversea'a adress with-out the US state department approval. (I still have that e-mail)

Looks like private sale is the only way. Have you checked here on the EE? I sold an Arms18 here a while ago. Two other good mounts are the SEI and Sadlak.
