M1A Precision Challenge 1.5 MOA

Hend - Congrats! Nice rifle and nice shooting. You make it look just too easy.

I will post your results this evening.

Good evening!

I went to the range today and attempted to meet the qualify the 1.5 moa challenge. Here is the result. Btw, I want to thank you BattleRifle for his clever idea. I used his method and I was able to put 6 five shots group on one paper.

Springfield Loaded Iron Sight
Commercial Hornady 168gr BTHP
SGC Range3 100 yards

On the group #5, I put 5 shots but I could only found 4 holes in the group. It would be unreal so I shot the #6 group if the group #5 was luck.
Hope I qualify this time.

Cheese,

Kelvin

Lycan-You're kicking butt with irons! I'm still planning to pull off the scope and go with iron sights. I do prefer it actually.

Didn't the iron sight requirements get bumped up to 2MOA?

Thanks!
Iron sight shooting is fun. It is very challenging especially daylight is key factor. I wish the daylight would be better on my next attempt.
I am hoping more people can participate in this challenge.

Read all post and can't wait to try my latest build but not all parts are here. These rifles I broke my teeth on years ago. Picked one up at a gun show and turned me on to firearms as a mother hobby. Gose with building jeeps and hotrods hand and hand but so very much cheaper. Bla bla bla nice shooting boys hope my lastest and not greatest will do moa! That can and this will for not a crape load of cash. My first norinco build hmmm got the right parts so far. Post pic from my range. Keep shooting people and don't let the RCMP take our Swiss and cz's.

Has there only be one shooter to meet the challenge so far?

Looks like. Pr589 also posted the identical challenge on a M14 site in the US that, not surprisingly, has some real serious '14 guys on it. So far one person met the challenge and he used a SAI M1A M21 with Leupold glass and FGMM ammo.

As I said before, to honestly pass this test sure wont be easy. Just like in the precision forum, where the fanboys who brag about their 1/4 MOA Savages were notably absent from list of people who successfully competed the .5"at 100 and 1/2 MOA at 300 challenges, so too in this forum I suspect that those who pass will not be doing so with their stock Norcs and surplus ammo !

did some trigger work on my M305 so decided to try it out again today
My groups measured from, average with 168 grain Hornady and H4895 at 2.06 ( H4895), smallest group 1.373 to
# average with Berger 155 grain VLD at 1.88 (varget) smallest group .692!!!
I have noticed that invariably the first shot from cold bore and even mag to mag was higher than the rest from the same mag. Decided to do an experiment...after 25 rounds of 168 grain Hornady match I decided to try my experiment. Had 25 rounds of Berger 155 gr VLD, shot first shot then followed by aiming where the first shot hit for the next 4shots. Did this for 5 mags worth. Results as in the picture here.IMG_20140426_193324.jpg

# To be fair to 168 grain Hornady, wasn't " following the shot"# as I did with the berger bullets.

# Seems to be a winning combination re: where ever the first shot from a particular mag lands regardless of time between mags follow the first shot by aiming directly at the point where the bullet hits for all other shots from that mag. That may not work for all situations but for the majority of what I shot today it made a huge difference.
