Looking for some advice on scope ring height.

Here's the scenario that's coming together:

-Springfield M1A Supermatch
-JAE-100 G2 stock chassis
-Vortex Razor HD 5-20x50
-CASM scope mount

Needing to figure out what height rings to buy. The scope is a 35mm tube, which means rings are rather limited.

Vortex has 35mm rings in 0.95 inch, 1 inch, or 1.26 inch.

From what I can tell, the CASM already raises the scope quite a bit. Can I get away with 0.95 inch rings?

I'd obviously like to keep as low as possible.

Just outta curiosity, are you planning a "standard" hand guard or a railed one?

Are you planning on building and cant into the CASM rail?

I have all of those on your list here, I could do some measuring for ya.

Standard hand guard. I don't think the heavy barrel will accept railed hand guards anyways.

"Are you planning on building and cant into the CASM rail?" Sorry, not sure what you mean.

Any advice appreciated.

The CASM mount it able to be "tilted" with either the front or rear "higher" that the opposite end of the rail. This is called "cant".

Generally speaking, you'll want the front lower than the rear.

With a CASM rail and the rear cranked all the way up (rear higher than lower) the scope bezel will clear a standard hand guard with the scope tight to the rail. I measured .185" between the tube and the CASM rail as a "minimum" distance, call it .190" as a real world minimum.

The problem with that measurement, is the magnification ring would have to be behind the CASM rail. Which would put the rear of the scope halfway down the butt-stock..... NFG for eye relief.

This means you'll want rings that will allow the magnification ring to clear the rail. This measurement is .300", to ensure clearance, I'd use .325" as a minimum.

That measurement is from the bottom of the scope body (where a ring would actually be) and the top of the CASM rail, not the area the ring lug would sit but the actual top of the rail.

Good luck with your build!
