I love my M1A loaded. Spare parts are too expensive to stock just in case...

Is an M305 good spare parts for my M1A?

I believe the threaded parts won't fit (metric vs imperial). Other than that?
Would you use a new Norinco bolt assembly in your M1A?

Standard M-14 parts are the perfect fit for your M1A.

All the M1A really is, is an M-14 with the full-auto parts left out during manufacture: not even the receiver cuts for mountiong them were done. But as to the rest of the rifle, operating parts (bolts, extractors et cetera), M-14 spares should be a perfect fit. Incidentally, the M-14 was the first industrial product manufactured exxclusively on CNC machine tools: all parts are a dead fit, no matter what manufacture.

There have been issues with Chinese parts installation on American receivers and so forth. I think I would stay with M-14 parts.... if I could afford an M1A to start with!

Most important of all: have fun!

Sure thing, keep some Norc M14 parts for spares, the prices are great. Also have a look here: http://w w w.762mmfirearms.com/762mm.aspx (hotlink modified in accordance to CGNutz policies).... just remove the spaces. :D

I'm going to order some stuff from them and keep my order beneath the $ 100 threshold ;)

Trigger group/oprod/gas assembly/barrel
These parts groups are acceptable replacement parts should you not be able to get M14/M1A parts
Sights stocks and bolts of chinese decent are best left for chinese guns.

M14 doctor: I get your point. If the chinese bolt are not recommended, the spare Norinco gets less attractive. For 400$ I can still get a few GI small parts...

Smellie: You mean that a Norinco is not a standard M14 right?

GIwolf: 2400$ on firearms canada (before discovering CGN, can't wait to visit the EE) with 6 5-10 mags and 1 5rnd, box and booklet. Once I sold the SAI mount and scope, it's around 2000$. SN was issued around sept '01. Synthetic stock is worn out but SS barrel is like new. Trigger was defective but SAI repaired it for free. PMC 147gr FMJ-BT is the only ammo I tried for now: 1.5"-100m, 7"-300m prone with iron sight. It impress me since the only upgrade is the guide rod.

Or instead of buying parts, I could save my money until I can get a LRB shorty M25. Would allow to service one rifle with the one I don't need, just in case... Meanwhile, enjoying 2 of the world's finest rifle!

Thanks everyone for your input! :)

There is a great downloaded book by Different that will give you the Chinese / USGI compatability discussion (http://www.imageseek.com/m1a/bedding.html). That is the hardware side.

The other side of the research is to go to the FAQs on dub dub dub fredsm14stocks dot com. Get past the US partisan rifleman in training BS and find his lists of parts that will fail and which started off bad from the plant. He won't sell outside the US, but use his site for reference.

Any update? Did you get the stuff you wanted from 762mmfirearms?

Knekt: Just a quick update... I ordered a bunch of ejectors, springs, extractor, and bolt related parts last week. My VISA card has been hit (a good thing) and we will see what shows up in the mail in a week or so. I kept my order at $ 96.00 give or take!

I'll get back to you all soon when stuff shows up in the mail.

Hungry: Ok, fingers crossed. I tried so place an order myself, but can't trough the checkout process. All I get after submitting my card info is "The billing address provided does not match the billing address of the cardholder.". Same result with three different cards. :(

My bolt innard(s) parts order came through today. Took since 22 Mar to 09 April... 2 to 3 weeks, but the bolt parts are here! They mailed the parts first class mail but dinged me for close to $ 15.00

Oh well, I have to be a guinea pig. Is this is a good deal ? Just depends upon your perspective. At least they will mail to Canada.

Your mileage may vary! :D

Too bad their bolts are over $ 150 and cannot be shipped here! :(

That's great news Hungry!!
Hopefully my FS shows up soon. I ordered it on 17 March but was told there was a production delay and it should arrive soon.

The original US Rifle, caliber 7.62mm, M-14 was manufactured by Springfield Armory, Winchester, H&R and TRW. All the machines were CNC and the Americans had complete control of the entire process.

Following the discontinuation of the M-14 project and the conversion of Springfield Armory into an industrial museum, some of the machine-tools and gauges and so forth were dispersed. One set ended up in China.

Most of the parts between the Norc and the Yank will interchage, but there have been issues with heat-treatment. Some folks say that the Norc parts aren't heat-treated properly, others say that they are OK. I remember when the first Norcs came out; I was utterly appalled, thought that the stock looked like a recycled condemned 2x6, finish was terrible.

Couple of weeks ago, I saw a new one, liked it, put a down-payment on the thing and I will have it on the range before the snow flies (I can do that, now that I get the Old Farts' Pension). So there has been a definite change in my own attitude and I intend to find out if it is justified. Besides, I can't take the FAL out of the house and I have all this damned .308 ammo and nothing to use it in.

But still it remains that there SEEM to have been issues with heat-treatment of critical parts in SOME of the (it seems, early) Norc production. Personally, I would play it safe. Besides, if you use original M-14 parts, you KNOW that they are US-manufactured and they ARE definitely up to snuff. That's all.

Be happy, have fun, shoot lots of ammo....

7.62firearms.com products are all to original USGI spec and it is 100% American made and done right. Please allow them some time to catch up with there non-civilian back order. You will not be disappointed with there products I promise you.
On a side note there chromed firing pins is a must if you are a lazy sob like me. Also there gas assembely is sweet. There products look as nice as Springfield if not better & have the quailty of Smith but almost at the price of Norks.

This was posted on Numrich's. Does it apply to m14 parts?
