Alright guys... Question time!

What was the 2011 M1A factory walnut stock finished with lindseed oil, or tung oil? Or something else.... The stock is stamped Boyds, I guess when SA ran out of USGI stocks they went to the next best thing! Im looking to put a nice fresh coat on it its getting a bit dry, I just dont want to screw it up. Ive got boiled lindseed and I know how to use it, I just want to know whats already on it. SA manual says you can used BLO or Tung but they havent updated that manual in forever and now they use a new supplier for the wood. Any guesses or suggestions?

BLO was the finish for garand and Early M14 stocks. I find it dries faster and penetrates easier if I thin it with some low odor mineral spirits. Get yourself a clean cotton cloth and saturate it with some BLO and mineral spiritsand wipe the whole stock down and put it up and forget about it for awhile and let it completely dry. Most of the SA inc. stocks are pretty dry and need a bit of oil.
After it is completely dry you can go over the stock with some tung oil if you like, but tung oil is somewhat glossy.
Hope this helps.....
