M24 vs. M40

ATR- Rick

Ardent: I've thought about the AICS but it's a bloody expensive system (and apparently not very comfortable), and the Remington 700 I'm most likely buying from ********is already properly bedded as well, and I quite like the HS stock. I might, down the road, buy a McMillan or Robertson stock, or maybe even the AICS, but not for now.

maynard: Many of the great new sniper rifles are based on Remingtons, aren't they? But I do get your point.

Airborne: I guess that's what I'll have to do! Just buy both:D.

Please enlighten me: who is Ric and where is ATR?

Quasi-smith/builder? Right, thats it! I am sure LongRangeCanuck feels that way aswell, ever see his rifle in the gallery and what he thinks of it? Yah, thats really Quasi-smith/builder workmanship!

Blackcloud,

I could not agree more that woodland cammo the USMC used on the M40A1 is damb ###y, what a gun it was, nothing finer, exactly the way it was, Unertl scope, with Unertl base dual dovetail rings, clip slotted base and rings brazed in for a secure fit, Semper-Fi to the M40A1.

Quasi-smith/builder from Cowtown. Used to defend him but heard some pretty sketchy things these days unfortunately from credible sources...

Ardent, I think your a good guy and Im not going to start a pissing match with ya but I think that post is out of line. For anything negative you can give about Rick or his buisness I can give you 10 to contradict it. I have just posted pics of Debs new rig , if that is a Quasi-Smith I would love to see what beats it. You know my Dakota is a tack driver at all ranges I would put it up against any rifle of that type includeing the Dakota Long-bow or Scimitar. Debs rig is going to hit the range for break in this week and I have no doubt it will be a performer that will compete with anything in North America of its type. If you have issues that need answers PM me.

I again am not in this for a ball kicking contest, I get enough of that at work.

The comment re: Quasi-Smith from Cowtown??? Let me just jump in here and say that to date, I have spent good money and had several quality rifles from most of the well know high quality gunsmiths in Canada, (no offence to the few on the board here that I have not done buisness with, yet!), and I can certainly vouch to "The Quasi-Smith from Cowtown". He has worked on many of my rifles, infact he is tuning up my latest hunting rifle (REM 700XCR 300 win mag) as we speak. I have never had problems with his work being nothing less than top notch!!!! In fact, he did all the mods to my HS Precision Pro2000 HTR, anyone who has had their hands on it can attest to the quality of the modification, and to the accuarcy of the rifle.

No problems recommending "The Quasi-Smith from Cowtown" to anyone who is considering having work done by him.

,,,,,,and now back to our scheduled programming!!!!!!!!!!!

M40A1 = One dead ######xyyyyy thunder stick!!!!!

Don't want this to come accross as back peddling, and I do believe my comment was harsh, when re-read it's sharper than I'd like and mean.

For the record I have dealt with ****/*** and my dealings were excellent, my misgivings are business oriented, not workmanship. Repeating them is probably not for the better of anyone. :)

My apologies if I've offended anyone :)

I will say this once.

The Smith' in question was removed from this site for continualy pushing and breaking CGN rules. He had MANY warnings and chose to ignore them.

I don't really care if you love him or hate him, there will be no promoting him or his business on this site.In otherwards, do not mention names, or post pics with anything identifing him.

Any such posts will be deleted without warning or explanation.

Said person had his chance here and abused the privilege, so he should not benefit by still having his name here.

SKBY.

Thanks for all the posts.
What are the differences in barrels between the two rifles? I know the M24 has a 5R barrel designed for the M118 Match Ball round, but I don't know much else.
Ardent: Thanks! You're a dealer for AICS? How much do they normally go for? I'm considering buying one down the road if I get bored of the HS stock.

Naw wish I had an AI connection, I just shoot them, presently using a stage 2. The chassis I refer to is one my manufacturing outfit is working on, it's an aluminum skeletonized system with fully adjustable butt, so far single shot only is in the works though a repeater is hopefully down the road, but even the single will take until fall easily to reach the market.

AICS's are really worth trying though, I find them extremely comfortable.

I put a couple rounds troughan AICS 700 and certainly found it to be comfortable, and a better fit to me the HS on my 700Police.
