M2A1 Halftrack Resto dialup beware

I broke down and bought a plasma cutter as it would have killed me on gas to cut off all the frame reinforcement that was added.

Out of curiousity, which Plasma Cutter did you get, and what do you think of it?

I've been looking for a while now, but haven't been able to figure out which one I want yet.

On a side note,
On another site a previous owner contacted me. He stated this was used in a movie called " Day one" shot in Que about the atom bomb and also used in (but may have been hidden under a structure) captain power tv show both from the 80s.

That movie title rang a bell. Some guys and M38A1 Jeeps from my old Militia unit were used in the production. I remember seeing the Jeeps on the armoury floor with semi-gloss green and big white stars. PM me and I will give you a name to contact.

There is a guy near Detroit or Chicago who sells (?) sold (?) complete repro rear armour. I had a URL on my old PC. Search for junk halftracks, repro armor, rebuild halftracks, etc. At one time I was curious about halftracks and researched what was for on the net. Then, of course, sanity prevaled.

Gary Hebring is the halftrack honcho, he is in NJ. I have ordered a rear floor from him, should be here in a few weeks. I already got a pair of NOS tracks from him that are dated 1994. They are from Israel when they had these still in their army

From what I was told, the white stars and hood numbers visible in some pics were placed there by the movie company for the movie Day One, so if it is in that movie, should be easy to spot

Wow. Great project. Looking forward to more updates. Nice pictures too.
I would assume you know about the steelsoldiers website? If not, they would have information and contacts for you.

Finally got all the extra crap off the frame. Still have to clean it up but the hard work is done. Removed the tracks. All the boogies, idlers and rollers spin/rotate freely so that's a bonus.

On a side note, i found an M20 greyhound that I'm seriously looking at buying. Its mostly complete but needing a resto too! I guess it really never ends. I keep telling my wife "just wait, when the zombies come we will be prepared!"

I would lose myself working happily on that....

Yes , this is a really neat thing, right on!!

The yanks use evaporust at fort hood to keep the Abrams all perfect.

If you can afford buying a halftrack and getting it shipped to you I imagine you can buy a few drums of evaporust

A couple steel drums of that stuff, some parts and a pile of happy work.

Cheers

- the more I look at it the more amazing it is.....frikkin Colleen....Amazing!!

Been kinda busy in the shop with customers cars lately, but got the frame blasted and ordered a ton of parts. 1500 pounds of parts came in last week so i guess its time to start on her again.

This is the armor tub that protects the engine oil pan. I was lucky to find one as i'm told they were always thrown away in the old days

Looking great! Those red-lead coated armour plates - are those for the aft armour, or replacement plates for the front, or are they your original armours blasted and primed?

I love these types of projects! I'd do one if I had your garage!!!
