Thanks, Barney. I was wondering where the information was coming from. However, I understand that both the AMU and the Marines were using extremely hot loads for an M-14 in order for the bullets to remain supersonic and stable at 1000 yards. The high pressure loads may have more to do with the op-rod damage than the bullet weight. The reason I was using 175 SMK's was that they shot so well in my rifle while the lighter bullets didn't. I took your advise to try the 155 Hornady A-Max with my 175 match load. Now I have a light bullet load that shoots the same as the 175's. Thanks for the information. Steve

Using heavy bullets/loads also is hard on the gas system (piston) and any type of bedding.
The Marines & AMTU use up to 190 gr. matchkings, but you have to remember they travel with an Armor's van complete with LOTS of spare parts, and they also rebuild & re-bed their M14s every shooting season.

This is my out of the box m305 from Mystar with the tac special. 100 yards if I do my part I can usually get rid of the flyers. I have some targets ever tighter with all 5 touching. Hand loads 168 gr Sierra match, 44 gr 4064, cci bench rest primer. 300 to 400 rounds never a misfire or a problem I love my 305.
