M305 and Tula ammo kaboom

just use the right ammo and have the headspace adjusted as required and you're fine
i keep thinking about an m305 too..preferrably one that someone has already done the headspace and op rod/spring upgrade in though.
 
this looks like the same post I did last year when a tula round ruptured in my socom 18! the picture of the case stuck is exactly the same. blew out the bottom of my magazine as well - sent it flying 20 feet over *ping*

and it's too bad, cause the tula ammo was a fun, powerful blast, but no I would never touch it again. I care about my rifle.. and my safety
 
Had the exact problem with my M305 a few months ago. Don't expect any help from tulaammo, they'll end up just not replying to your emails.
 
Exact thing happened to me (M14, Tulammo). Took it to the gunsmith, excessive headspace (I think it was 11 thou over the field reject gauge). It's a known problem resulting from poor QC at Norinco. The reason you have a serious incident with tulammo is a mild steel casing won't be able to extrude as much as a brass casing can before bursting. If anyone has been injured from this they should probably start a class action lawsuit. The indifference of importers and vendors when selling a product with a potentially deadly defect is unacceptable (especially when it only requires a quick and simple verification to determine if the rifle is safe).
 
LOTS of info regarding ammo + Norc m305s have drifted across these pages over the years & my understanding was stick to Norc surplus & Federal blue box in 168grain or less to avoid issues. I have done this for close to 900 rounds through my 305 & have had ZERO issues with those rounds thus far! I did try Remington Core lokt but my gun absolutely hated it; stovepipe almost every round so turfed that stuff. Tried some Barnaul & got 6inch groups (at 50 yards) so gave up on that. Tula seemed too hot & left the gun really dirty so screw that stuff too.
 
of course the way around all this is to ROLL YOUR OWN- get a dillion 550 or similar, or a couple of single stages, and that way you can CONTROL WHAT YOU feed your rifle- I got my first 308 back in 72 or so( a savage 99) and I haven't looked back- sure I've bought bullets, brass , primers and powder- I get my powder in 8 pound kegs and bullets 1k at a time- this feeds some 7 m14/305s- I got a good recipe from zeidker called an m118slr- 165/168 grain- the ONLY change if I was going single stage again i'd get a SECOND stage so I don't have to do all that screwing/unscrewing- 1 round at a tome from beginning to end
