At 9 am this morning the special delivery lady was at the door with a big long box . After thanking her for her effort , I got down to business in unwrapping my new baby . :)

This is my first M305 and I have been hunting high and low for a 22 inch barrel model . I found this one last Saturday night on the Epps web site for $ 349.00 , listed in excellent condition . Sunday morning at 10 am I called them and asked about the history of this rifle and why the great price . They explained it was a regular who bought it and then came back and traded it in for something else , apparently a normal thing for this client ( ? ) . They said it was Unfired and as New condition but did not have the original box or owner's guide ect , also it had only one 5 round mag .

I ordered it on the spot and now I have examined it , there is no sign that it has ever been fired ... that I could find any way , not a mark on the mag follower or any were else ...

The New Op rod and 20 round mags and scope mount will be here soon too ..

Here are some pic's , they really know how to wrap at Epps !!

The M14 platform is a lot of fun! Nice to see you so excited about it & Epps did a good job of packing that rifle!

If you have not already, read the sticky above & consider taking the Hungry clinic to further tune your boom stick!

Cheers

Thank you , happy to be here .

I'm looking forward to have some range time and see how she shoots .

I'm still waiting for some new parts and ammo to come .

I hand load 30-06 and 303 , I read a good post on for the 308 this morning on CGN this forum , has any one reloaded steel casings ?

If any one has any pointers on getting better accuracy from the M305 I'm all ears .

I did order the S&J hardware op rod for starters ( yet to arrive ).

Great forum guys

Check the stickies at the top of the forum regarding tweaks. It would be great if you benchmarked each of your improvements although if you're like me, you'll be in too much of a rush to wring the most out of your rifle.

The best, and I mean the very best (been there!) way to get tips and tricks is to attend one of Hungry's clinics. May require a shim or two at the gas block. The round op rod guide is also a good thing to have. I put a new bolt on mine with some really good results.

Wow , great feed back guys .

It must be Christmas , Canpar just showed up , 2 factory 20 round mags and scope mount .

The scope has been on the shelf of 2 months now :)

I hope tomorrow the S & J Hardware op rod arrives .

I can't get out to the Range this week , wife is sick in bed so I'm staked down till either she gets better or I finish digging the new well , which ever comes first ,,, lol

I noticed everyone that buys one shims the gas block and changes the op rod guide, shouldn't these things be ready to go right out the box? I have wanted one for awhile but it turns me off thinking I must change these things, it like buying a car but the first thing you gotta do is change the seats

Hi , Oh they are " Good to Go Right out of the Box , No question about that . It's just that some shooters like to see if they can improve over the guys at the factory , squeeze that extra bit out of a particular rifle or pistol . It's like a guy buys a brand new car and he drives it over to the local speed shop and has over sized rims & high performance low profile tires installed , maybe even some headers or other bolt on extra's to increase HP and handling . This was perfectly fine car from the factory but the guy just wants to squeeze more of the locked in performance he believes is in the car .

The standard Op Rod in the M305 is a flat long piece of metal with holes in it that goes to a point at the end , a S & J Op Rod is a solid round " Rod " that tapers at one end , the recoil spring surrounds the op rod , so a smooth Round coated Op rod holds the spring's shape and it compresses evenly , the Flat op rod trends to have the spring compress unevenly , so the thought is a more even compression is better for the spring and may help improve accuracy .

The Gas porting , shimming .... well I am not there yet ,, so I will let someone else explain that , I would like to know more about this too.. so someone please give us some insight about the gas system on the M305 ,, Please :)

You don't have to do any improvements and you still will have a great shooting rifle , my buddy has a 22 in as well and has done no improvements and he is shooting orange clay pigeons at 200 years , with stock iron sights , from the bench !

So if you like the M305 , just go out and get one and don't worry about us crazy guys who like to tinker . It's all good !!

I believe i'll just pop a quick correction in here, spring guide, not oprod.

Yes your right , I was just using the advertised name " M14 Op Rod Spring Guide Gen II "
from S&J web site . That's the one I ordered , they have it on sale right now for $ 27.99 down from $ 38.99 and I have seen J&S for sale on other webs sites for even higher prices .

For most of us, we look at the M305 as a "project gun". The initial investment is to give you the foundation to start with. From there, the skies the limit.

I agree 100 % , it's a starting point for many but others just enjoy the stock model and have a great time shooting it .

I have added again to day to the add on's , scope , rings , bipod ...

Spent the rest of the day cleaning and starting the build .

Here are a few pictures of todays tinkering . Sanded the sharp edges first off ...

It kind of a picture , step by step of my preparation and installation of the scope
I hope it may be of some use to someone .
